Golf Thread

Yeah, will take a look in my local AG later this week. Just bit the bullet and bought a Mashie 18° hybrid for £70 delivered from Online Golf. Aparently it's a great club - here's hoping :)

They only had the stiff shaft (Miyazaki) but I think that'll be fine for me on a hybrid, and I was considering changing my driver over to stiff anyway, so I guess this can be the guinea pig :p

God, I'm hell for changing my mind

Just cancelled the Mashie and looking at the Mizuno JPX Hi-FLi 19° in steel instead. Reckon it may serve me better as a proper 3 iron replacement.

First lessons over!

the pro gave me a few balls and watched me hit a 7 iron, typical fare was on show, couple of tops... dug under a couple too resulting in some skittles, decent strikes were off target for the most part with a full range of spread.

The pro (Gregg) said i had a very arm and hand swing, basically i used my arms and hands to generate any swing or power i had and completely neglected my body.
He said that the basics were in place. grip, stance and position were fine but technique was arm and handsy :D

he took my swing back to basics and made me focus on body turn and chest position, at first it felt tight and uncomfortable and it wasn't until i started to get a rythem to it that it began to feel smoother and more fluid/directional.

He took me over this a few times and before i new it the lesson was over, told me to play 2 or 3 weeks golf and practice what he had taught and to come back for more tuition.

Really glad with the results of the lessons and the next few rounds trying to stamp it into my uncontentious!

New bag arrvied and cleaned the clubs last night as well.

New grip on the driver (hated the stock one) and couple of new gloves purchased.

Will get a picture up later of the bag and clubs for the year ahead.

Glad to hear you had a good experience. It's amazing what a difference a small change by a Pro can make to your game. It seems like the most awkward thing in the world sometimes, but make sure you stick with it as it will pay dividends.

I am going to go back to my local Pro (not been for over a year now) as something is not quite right in my backswing (left wrist never seems to stay flat) and it's causing me a lot of inconsistencies. I have no doubt that after 10 mins he will have found and sorted the problem, so it's money very well spent :)

Oh by the way, get a video lesson if you can at some stage, it's amazing how much you can learn from actually seeing and analysing your own swing.

I currently have 2 60 degree wedges in my bag but will be dumping the old mizuno one (i mainly used that one for out of bunkers).

Leaving space for either 56 degree wedge or possibly another rescue/hybrid of some kind.

Old Taylor made rescue club is one of the original rescues - still love it. Great club, I can hit it about 235 off the deck on a good hit but can also grip down and hit it about 190 so it's very useful. Also use it around the greens as a putter if coming out of a bit of light rough.

You can have my Nike SQ Dymo for £45. 10.5/R (mint condition) or my Titleist 905R 9.5/R for £40 (good condition couple of skymarks). I preferred the Titleist myself if i'm honest.

Could be interested in the Titleist, depending on how bad the marks are (I'm a stickler for perfection) but not at £40 with visible skymarks. If you Trust me some pics I may discuss it with you further.

Just got back from a round of stableford, have to say im so so pleased with what i took from my lesson.

Drives for the most part was straighter and longer, irons felt much more effortless and something that i didn't have any input in the lesson on was my putting and it was on fire today.

Highest so far ive finished with was 12, today i got 25 and that is with 3 stinker of wholes that i completely fell apart on technique wise... composed my self and found my rhythm again to bring it back.
lost by a single point to my regular playing buddy who i generally get thrashed by for at least 15 points!

stroke of the day had to be a stonking 12 foot put, got a lucky turn i didnt plan for at the end but im taking it as my own and buzzing so hard its unreal, back out again tomorrow at 9.06 and hoping to play the same.

Amazing what just a little consistency can do for your game :D

Nice :)

Enjoy it while you can, it'll soon start frustrating the hell out of you again :D

Offtt - that was a typical 1st round of the season today for me!

Tripled the 1st and birdied the 18th!!

In between that was some good shots, some bad shots and some downright ugly shots!!

Anyway - at least the cobwebs have been blown off for the season!
