hmm, went to the driving range today and swung me big bats for the first time in several years.., took 7 iron, 4 iron, 3 wood and a couple of drivers...

its not like riding a bike is it :( lots of slicing today with the odd pull hook, out of 75 balls i reckon i hit 10 at the most online.. but well short of where i was years ago, pretty sure that i didnt get past the 200yrd mark today with the drivers

Guys considering either a new set of the MD Seve Icon Speed Pro 2's or a used set of Cleveland CG16's.

Any advice as to which might be best? Will be using same shafts no matter what one I chose.

Also looking at the new MD Superstrong driver as it seems to be getting good reviews and is a very reasonable price new :)

Titleist RC-11 Cart Bag ordered.

£92 (10% discount with 247golf today).

Pictures when it arrives with clubs in!

EDIT - Christ - already got dispatch email and tracking details!! Nice work - arriving tomorrow

I had the clevelands at one point mate really light club

bigger name than MD although i have MD clubc in my bag it would be what feels better to you

I also tried the new driver and didnt personally like it [think the shaft wasnt right for me ]

Thanks for the response mate.

I have MD's at the minute (Superstrong Tungsten ti mk2) and quite like the weight and balance, just fancy something new really. Might be better to go with what I know :)

What was it that you didn't like about the driver? Distance? Accuracy?

1st point yes the clevelands are a bit light ,too light for me mate

I juat didnt like the feel of it mate ,i dont think its as good as there original drivers ,if your looking the mizuno mx700 is a belting driver i used that up till a few months ago and it helped me and there cheap now

Just thought id drop in and say i have my first lesson booked for Wednesday evening, really looking forward to see what the pro says about me and what i can start to take form the lessons.

Played my best ever round 2 weeks ago and broke 100 for the first time finishing the round on 98 strokes, seemed like everything i hit was straight as a die and fairway all the way, made a couple of birdies on some of the hardest holes on the course and finished the round so in love with the game its unreal.....

Fast forward 2 weeks and its like i peaked, everything i do now just fails, cant hit a ball straight or take a drive full stop, ive been playing 5 times a week so think ive drowned my self in the game and am taking a week or two off but its so frustrating! hardest thing about this game is remembering to try and NOT try!

welcome to the last 20 years of my life!:p:p

Okay I've totally pickled my head with my choices now:

Driver - MD SuperStrong ST or Mizuno MX700, or Callaway FT9 I-Mix or maybe even just grab a Ping G5 with stiff shaft (I drive the ball very high with my current 10.5° regular)

Irons - MD Seve Speed Pro or MD Seve Speed Pro 2 or Cleveland CG16

Hybrid - MD Seve Utility Iron or MD SuperStrong Hybrid or Cleveland Mashie

AAAHHHH!! Help :D :p

You need to hit them if possible - without doing that you won't know what suits your game.

Personally I've never got on with mizuno drivers but their irons are a thing of beauty.

Yeah, would love to be able to hit them, but not sure if that's going to be an option. Will see if I can sort something out

Played twice last week on a course which is a par 64. I equalled my best ever card (90), but unfortunately, I carded an 11 on the last hole. The second day I carded a 10 on the last.

I'd steer clear of the muzzy drivers, 3 pro's I know are sponsored by them and get free kit, none of them use their drivers, it's either taylormade or titleist.

Thanks for the tip. Funny I just spoke to a friend who said they weren't great too. Looks like I'll maybe give the MD a shot, or look for an R9 or similar.

I've been offered a new set of the MD Seve Speed Pro irons (4-SW) with True Temper steel shafts and a MD SuperStrong ST driver for £240 delivered - I think that's pretty damn good tbh, very tempted to just go for it.

I could then add something like a Cleveland Mashie 18° hybrid to complete the set for £300 all in :)

consider having a look at local pro shop or american golf places for 2nd hand stuff. There is usually a fair amount of stuff that people have hit once or twice and then got rid off etc

Yeah, will take a look in my local AG later this week. Just bit the bullet and bought a Mashie 18° hybrid for £70 delivered from Online Golf. Aparently it's a great club - here's hoping :)

They only had the stiff shaft (Miyazaki) but I think that'll be fine for me on a hybrid, and I was considering changing my driver over to stiff anyway, so I guess this can be the guinea pig :p
