Off for a wee tune up lesson tomorrow. Glad it's an indoor place with all the launch monitors as the snow has just started falling in Glasgow!!

Try and iron out a few bad habits.

Aims for this year anyone?

Currently 10.4 - realistically hoping for solid 9.0 by the end of the year but again with limited time due to family and work that could be a tough ask.

Aims for this year anyone?

My aim for this year is to get down to 6, I'm currently at 8.2.

Have been putting in plenty of practice recently with 2 trips up to the range a week, hitting 100+ balls each time, as well as playing on the course at least once a week.

I played on Saturday in the annual A team v's B team match, and played out of my skin, 1 over after 15 (we won 4 and 3) hopefully they'll be plenty more of that sort of form to come!

Good lesson this morning.

Nice guy and some good simple drills to work on.

Was interesting to see the stats on the launch monitor etc.

Swing speed was on average 105/110mph, Driver launch angle was decent around 11.5 degrees, ball speed was 155mph with driver and average carry was around 250-255 which I'm fairly happy with.

Some work on my grip and wrist positioning early in my swing, otherwise he said I had a swing that was 90% of the way there. A few more lessons and he pretty confident that I can reach 8 this year with a bit of practise.

Very good stuff - will be returning in a few weeks after some practice.

Got out yesterday with the newly acquired Mizuno JPX Fli-Hi 3 iron replacement.

After the first couple of shots I thought oh dear, I've made a mistake buying this. However I then realised I'd been trying to hit it like a fairway wood - doh!

Next couple of shots with it I hit it like an iron and what a difference!! The ball comes off the face very hot, with a really penetrating low trajectory. Saw 185yds carry into the wind, which is awesome for me. Sent me over the back of a par 3 it went that far!! Well pleased with the purchase :)

Yea i found that, with my 25deg, ball middle of stance and swing easy, it goes really nice.

Aims are to get down to 13/14 currently at 16.6, and to win a comp with an active handicap

picked up a new pair of shoes tonight from a friend who ordered a size 9 and then found out a size 9 in mizuno and 9 in adidas have nothing in common!

mizuno stability style 2011, very nice fitting.
the parachute tab is well.... useless and i don't hold out much hope for the configurable spike changing my slice but they seem great for the money, will be playing in them tomorrow.

Well I've gone and done it now - ordered a new set of MD Golf Seve Speed Pro Irons 4-SW with regular True Temper Release+ steel shafts.

Have also ordered 7 matching grips to replace all my other clubs (driver, 3 wood, wegdes etc) and got a really nice deal of £176 all in, brand new :)

Can't wait to get them now and get out on the course again. Must get something arranged for next week.

So, the bag for this year will now be:

Ping G5 10.5° driver (might change this at some point, getting a little long in the tooth now)
TaylorMade Burner Superfast 3 wood
Mizuno JPX Fli-Hi 3 Iron hybrid
MD Golf Seve Speed Pro Irons
MD Golf Seve + Drew wedges
Mizuno Bettinardi blade putter

its shocking how little old clubs sell for, i certainly wouldnt buy new again, ive seen clubs like mine sell on ebay in the last week...
x12 irons (graphite) paid ~£650 new, same sold on the bay for £58
hawkeye driver, paid £280, same sold for £17
orlimar tri-metal driver, paid £200 same sold for £10
the only thing i have that could have be worth a few quid is my scotty cameron newport, but thats beat up a bit

Always the way - you look at say a Ping G5 driver - brand new it was £199 and that was only 2.5 years ago (had G10, G15 and G20 in that time) - pick the G5 up for sub £40.

Even drivers that were a year old are selling 60/70% off their new price. I always speak to my local pro and trade in where possible. You would have got £100 or so at least for the irons with a local pro. Also factor in the ridiculous ebay fees and that is just to painful to think about!

Certain clubs and iron sets hold their value a bit better. Well looked after Titleist forged blades or CB's even from 4-5 years ago can still fetch well over £150. Ping sets as well, the way they are cast makes them very very durable, can still get a really good price for i5's for example.

Driver's very rarely hold any sort of value, especially with the introduction of adjustable drivers. Love my R11!

For selling my old gear I usually use Gumtree or check out if anyone I know needs anything. My old Slingshot irons went to one of my golfing buddies who decided he had had enough of his 1999 Donnay irons :p

my full set of clubs comes to the princely sum of £185

Nike sumo 2 SQ driver £40
Wilson deep red 2 irons 3 to 9 + pw & sw £50
Nike slingshot 2 hybrid £30
Odyssey White hot #1 blade putter £30
Nike sumo 5 wood £35

Ebay is a real killer for sellers, takes your eyes and comes back for the sockets but can be a real gem for buyers.

thinking about replacing my irons with some slingshots but i cant decide :(

Have any of you guys played a round on your lonesome, or have no qualms about playing alone? My usual playing partners are all unavailable this week, so I'm considering going out on my own tomorrow morning...Not sure whether I'd enjoy the solitude.
