What a difference a day makes! My approach to the greens was exceptional today, yet I couldn't drive to save my life. Big slices, off the heel hooks and poor distance.

Played for the first time in 2 weeks due to damaged ribs after a fall down the stairs.
Not the best preparation for a weeks golfing in Portugal !!
Flying out in the morning @ 7am :D

Our clubs team played Alsager golf club on Saturday in a league match, unfortunately my playing partner and I lost 2 & 1 :(

It's a beautiful course though, and even though we lost our match I thoroughly enjoyed playing there.
The views from the 13th green and 14th tee were absolutely incredible, apparently you can see 6 counties! I'd certainly not hesitate to play there again.

2&1 victory tonight in the stutt cup - into last 16 now.

With my changed grip, I can honestly say that I've never hit so many good iron shots in a single round. 7/8/9/pw was superb tonight - really really good.

Driver - that's a different matter - when it was hit straight and well, it was miles beyond anything I've ever hit before (hit the greenside bunker from the tee at our 8th hole, measured with skycaddie at 305 yards!), Also a monster drive at our SI 1 hole (420 yards uphill) hit driver, wedge to about 8 ft!!!

However - far to many wild shots, mainly duck hooks which are part of the stronger right hand grip and kind of to be expected. I've excited that my irons are improving since the changes and can see the improvements, just need to straighten up the driver now!

Played at Walton Hall, Warrington today, but because of the recent rain the course was quite boggy and the long grass difficult to escape. Lost quite a few shots through hitting the ball fat, which |I haven't suffered with since last autumn. Woods off the tee were poo again too, range tomorrow to work on my driver/slice...

Played on saturday and could not hit the driver or irons to save my life! Absolutely terrible round of golf, needless to say the clubs were thrown a few times.
Everyone says hybrids are easy to hit,but i cant get on with them! Hit bad shots all the time, same goes for 3 wood! Taken them to driving range lots of times and hit them, it makes no difference. Seen the videos of how to hit them, some say to hit them this way and then you go on other ones and they tell you to hit them another way.all very confusing! Think i will stick to hitting my 6 iron instead.

I got a Mizuno hybrid a couple of months ago and the first few times I took it out I couldn't hit it at all. Then it dawned on me, I was trying to hit it like a fairway wood, sweeping the ball. As soon as I changed and started hitting it just as if it was an iron I hit it perfectly, and in fact it's now the best club in my bag!

So, if you're struggling, try thinking of it as an iron and see how it goes.

I also found addressing the ball as you would an iron improved hitting the ball with my hybrid. Great club once you are hitting the ball correctly.

Yeah, couldn't agree more. I found myself initially setting up to it as if it were a 3 or 5 wood - the results were not good :p

Went to the driving range today. Did as you guys said and tried to hit like a iron, well the results were much better! Still need more practice with the hybrids ,forgot to mention the hybrids are the John Letters T8. Went out on the course and did 9 holes in 47 shots, not quite my best but certainly much better than saturday. Only used the 3 hybrid once but managed to hit it ok.
thanks guys for the advice.

Played a round today in pretty windy conditions. Played so-so. Some great shots followed by some awful ones, and in between my putting was jeckyl and hyde - awesome one minute and dire the next :p

I'm only getting one, maybe two rounds a month and maybe once at the range. Got to get out more and practise more too. Can't expect to improve anytime soon without it.

Played a round myself today, mid irons were terrible, but my driving was much better. What I was pleased with was my putting...30 putts which included some 20 - 30ft sinkers :D

After about 6-7 years out of the game i've started going back to the driving range, surprised how well i can still hit the ball, although i know i'd struggle round the course, mainly judging distances/club selection, and the shots that require touch and feel. Used to play off 4 as a junior, and played for county u16 and mens scratch team at my club.

Anyway reason i'm posting is because i have a question regarding club failure. I was at the driving range last night and hit a couple bad drives, looked at the club to try and see if there was an impact mark from the ball to try and gauge how far out i was and noticed the club face had cracked just above where the sweet spot is.

Anyone had anything like this happen before?

It's a Titleist 975 J-VS i believe from looking on google. A few years old now obviously, think Titleist might replace it under warrenty?

£ games in 3 days for me this weekend.

Bounce game with my dad tomorrow
Friday is foursomes tie
Saturday is final qualifier for club championship.

Usual inconstancies from me in last medal round!

Beautiful weather today

Game of golf with my dad over his home course today.

Interesting 1st hole - Hooked it into the trees off the tee, found the ball took 4 shots to get it back to the fairway, then holed a wedge from 118 yards for a 6!! :p

My dad then chipped in from about 50 yards at the 2nd for a 3!

Ropey front nine - good back nine and a couple under my handicap to finish with (11 currently)

Don't normally bother with measuring my drive distance but I knew I had hammered the one at the 13th so measured it out of interest!
