GP2 & GP3 2013 Season

Just watched the Cecotto bit, the intent was there, hope he gets punished soon before someone gets hurt. Monaco could be interesting...

Any idea why GP3 isn't racing at Monaco? Was it the GP3 race that became carnage last year?

Yup. Connor Daly being a prat.

He tried to blame the accident on the Suranovich, but to be fair, the reason the he didn't have a rear wing was due to him driving into the back of him earlier in the lap.

That was one time where the stewards got it right. They penalised Daly with a 10 place grid drop at the next race.

I do agree that Daly should have been able to avoid contact initially, on the other hand Suranovich is a no-talent pay driver that doesn't belong out there.. and he did jink around in the braking zone for the chicane.

It is yea, think it's just for Monaco so there aren't so many cars on the track at once.

Edit: Just had a check, last year was the first year they did it and it does seem to be for Monaco only (after some collisions in 2011).

Yeah the commentary just reminded me of that pile up in Qualifying a few years back.

Interesting idea. I wonder how they would cope if it rained between the 2 sessions?

Apparently its split odds and evens so every team has 1 car per session and it's decided at random which group goes first to try to randomize the advantage of the track rubbering in... but that wouldn't be much consolation if it did rain between sessions, so i'm not sure if they'd just have to deal with it. I suppose it's lucky it's Monaco and not somewhere rain is more likely.

Ah, I just twigged, its not 2 half of the same session, its single file each side of the grid.

So all the guys in the first session line up in single file on one side of the grid, and all the guys in the second session line up on the other side. Which side they sit on is defined by who is the outright fastest as they get pole.

So if it did rain inbetween session it wouldn't matter as the times are just for that session. So you could get all the guys in the second session being 20 seconds slower as it rained, but the fastest guy would still be 2nd on the grid, second fastest would be 4th, third would line up 6th, etc.
