Graphics Card Warranties (UK Only) - Let's see how good they really are!

My gigabyte Windforce 670 GTX appears to have failed, Windows error Code 43 and even after reinstalling windows and installing the nVidia drivers it still won't work.

OcUK are handling the RMA for me, although Gigabyte have also sent RMA details to me when I emailed their support.

I'm always nervous with RMAs that they'll say the card works fine and it must be something else. I then end up with a bill for the RMA and a "non-working" card (in my situation).

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to clarify some things about our VGA RMA policy as false information appears to be circulating.

First of all, any Asus Video Card bought in the UK comes with a 3 year warranty.

If you have an issue and the card needs to be sent for repair/replacement then this is the procedure including time-frames:

1. You return the card to place of purchase.
2. The store will then send the card to their distributor (the company that provided them with the card in the first place).
3. The distibutor will inform Asus of the faulty product and we arrange UPS or DHL collection (1 working day delivery)
4. We repair or replace the card! (3 working days).
5. We send card back by UPS or DHL (1 working day delivery)

I'm currently testing how quickly Powercolor repair/replace a gfx card.

Confirmed faulty by the vendor and sent back to the manufacturer, possibly up to another 28 days :(

Wish to add I love XFX and would always buy their cards where I can. I've had various from nvidia 7series 8series and then the ati cards since then and have had only 2 problems late in the warranty period of 2 years both times these were replaced by posting direct to xfx in the UK within 3 days - no repairs either just brand new cards even when one I'd overclocked to death they replaced it no questions asked even though I'd changed the TIM! I think maybe they appreciate they sell enthusiast products and cater for the overclockers.

The scummers wouldn't even replace my 6 week old card best offer I got was a trade £59 trade in.

Seems that most people don't get anywhere with them at all and one or two people seem to get replacments direct from xfx but I have been told numerus times by xfx that they don't do any sort of direct replacement.

Here is some qoutes of the sort of turd I get from there support team.

[SHAUN_T 8/15/2012 10:28:59 AM] Hi Richard, thanks for your message. As has already been said, within Europe the warranty is ONLY with the reseller, no direct warranty with XFX so repair/replacement is absolutely not possible unfortunately.

Here is another one:
[SHAUN_T 8/14/2012 10:54:04 AM] Hi Richard, thanks for your message. The warranty does not apply within Europe, so Im not too sure where you saw this information when purchasing the product. We are offering you a discount off a new graphics card because your reseller isnt helping out. Kind regards, Shaun.

my gigabyte gtx460 died a week ago.
i RMA'ed it directly to gigabyte on the 15th and had it returned today :D

good service imo! the note says they replaced the core chip

i take everything back **** gigabyte.

they sent me a 768mb gtx 460 with a 192bit memory bus

my card was 1 gb model with a 256bit meory bus........

Update for my RMA'd Sapphire 7970. It is being replaced and will be with me tomorrow. So it took a little over 4 weeks to be resolved. I returned it to the place of purchase and they couldn't find the fault apparently. I suggested they look harder, so they returned it to Hungary or wherever Sapphire is. Now they found the fault and they are sending me a new one.

Turnaround time not great but I am happy with the end result. Having a second 7970 to tide me over made it more manageable.

OK I can give a user opinion of how the current Powercolor rma service stacks up.

My card was sent back to the vendor who tested it on 16th Aug and confirmed it was faulty and sent it back to the supplier (or distributor possibly?)
Got a phonecall today saying a brand new replacement was being despatched and will be delivered next Tuesday.
That's 14 days total from me sending it to getting a new card.

I can't moan about that :D

Did you buy it from OcUk?

Poor service whoever it was.

Complain!

i did they said its the exact same card and all they did was replace the GPU core.

they asked for the numbers from the bottom of the card to confirm it should be the 1gb model.

they sent a courier to collect it from me so they can check the bios and memory bus (i checked via the gap between the heatsink and pcb aswell and theres the correct amount of memory chips for the 1gb version)

OK so I just received my replacement card which is a standard 7950 (not PCS+ version) and also the packaging was damaged.
Suffice to say another returns number has been received and it is going back.
I'm being told the PCS+ version has reached end of life but considering the premium I paid for it they can shove the standard 7950 where the sun merely glows.

Who was the company? What are they sending you instead?

It was not Overclockers.

To be fair to the vendor they have reacted quickly and communicated well, but I wish they would have noticed the card was the incorrect version and rang me before sending.

They have said they will see what they can do when it is returned (it will be back with them tomorrow).

I have said that I'm not willing to accept a lower spec card though so perhaps they will offer another manufacturers overclocked HD7950 or if it has to be Powercolor a cheaper (reference) 7970???

Dunno how it works tbh.

Make sure you let us know how it goes. Always interesting to hear this.

Good luck, hopefully you get a 7970. Superb card.

I'd stay away from powercolour if I was you.

I personally would ask for a refund to buy an MSI/Giga card

OK a decent outcome I think.

Just had the call to say the replacement gfx card was wrong which was sent to me but as they no longer have the Powercolor PCS+ version I'm going to get the HD7950 MSI Twin Frozr 3 version tomorrow.

Pretty happy with that
