Graphics Card Warranties (UK Only) - Let's see how good they really are!

Thread necromancy!

As an aside to my woes, Overclockers have just emailed me to say that they have a B grade 5870 Vapor-X on the way to me. This is very good of them and they should be commended, but as they told me it was declined warranty and nothing after that, I've already bought a 680 GTX from them in the meantime! /facepalm

An update regarding MSI, my RMA (broken fan) took 25 days between being forward on by OcUK, and being sent out by OcUK (so including shipping from&to myself, basically 4 weeks).
So the 10-14 days quoted above should probably have a caveat based on my experiences, even if you only count working days it was still more than that.

Also worth noting that (from a customer pov) the RMA is now dealt with by the retailer (even after 12 months) rather than with the RMA base in Netherlands as quoted above now.

On a more positive note, my old GTX280 coped admirably over the past month, encouraging me to play a few of the older titles from my backlog and handling them with ease :)

Yeah given the choice I'd have preferred to cut out the middleman. Seems a bit weird that it would take longer for an indirect RMA; if anything you'd expect it to be quicker (ignoring the additional transit days) given that the item should in theory have already been tested by a reputable reseller (as opposed to just taking the customer's word for it). OcUK sent it to MSI on the 14th and received the replacement on the 6th which even if you take the bank holiday out of the equation was a 3 week turnaround.

Reason is, MSI wait until they need to send something to OcUK

For example, if your RMA was ready to be despatched from MSI to OcUK on the 1st, MSI would wait until/if OcUK had an order with them or until more than X amount of RMAs were due to go back. So If OcUK had ordered 100 MSI 7850's, your RMA would come back with those 7850's, otherwise MSI would be wasting a lot of money individually shipping things back to a retailer.

That's how I understand it anyway :p

it takes flipping ages to get the card replaced, i have to wait another week yet, they've had it a week already and they havent even looked at it yet !

oh well, i may as well replace the hard drive whilst i'm waiting

You killed it already?

Poor mal :(

Bet you're glad you didn't varnish it now!:p

mine died two weeks ago, it only lasted 6 hours !

yea can you imagine if i varnished it :(

i'm not going above stock volts next time..... no way ! because i wasn't careful enough last time, i OC it way too far, to be honest i dont think it needs much OCing anyway.

the card blew without crashing first, it OC fine; i never had any trouble with it on MSI Afterburner, i noticed no signs of trouble first, the only thing that i didn't like was the increase in Coil Whine.... it got very loud, i should have taken this as a warning sign....silly me !

so next time i will stay on stock volts and watch out for coil whine, because as soon as i start hearing it i'll back off straight away

i'm now getting very worried about my RMA, they've had my card since the Jubilee.

they keep fogging me off via the phone... too busy, a guy short, off sick etc.

i'm trying so hard not to loose my cool with them, i need to apply more pressure, because ringing them up is not working, i didn't buy from here because i wanted to save money, but what a mistake that was !!!!!

it's keeping me awake at night, you know when you get that nasty feeling that someone has ripped you off, it's the same as that

What volts did you have it at when it died? what clocks did you have it at?

so you mean if you kill a card by overclocking, you can RMA it?

i didn't get it from here :(

they dont just RMA computer stuff, they sell everything from fridges to hoovers. everything that fails and goes back under guarantee has to be tested first, according to them they're very busy !!!!!!

Sapphire encourage the card to be overclocked, that's what all their marketing hype is about, so if it blows it isn't really my fault, after all; it blew at far less than what i've seen online.

there are no clear instructions supplied about how to OC.. you have to find this out yourself online, yet you're still encouraged to do so !!!

Sapphire dont have a leg to stand on, because i overclocked via their Software with no instructions from them about how to do it correctly.

If it died from overclocking there will signs of around the vrm's such as black marks broken solder etc. I very much doubt you the first person to send back card that has died from overclocking hoping that they won't notice so I doubt your attempt to pull a fast one will work.
