Graphics Card Warranties (UK Only) - Let's see how good they really are!

I got it from the MM :D
and for the length of time i've had it, no problems, and it mustve been a few years old
Really tempted now, is there any after market coolers that would fit the 7870xt?

jony27: lack of CS? customer support?

Yes, cs = customer support.

Re : my own rma....as requested at the end of last week, I emailed Gigabyte on Monday about the status of my rma. They said that it would be replaced with either a new or refurbished card later this week, as they've had to wait for stock to arrive from Holland.

Got my replacement HIS 7950 today from OcUK. It took 21 days from me posting it off to having the replacement delivered. Great service from both HIS and OcUK.

The proposed replacement offered by Gigabyte is a GTX570 SOC. I expect it's a lost cause, but I put my point forward that it wasn't a fair replacement due to it having :

less video memory
less memory bandwith / smaller memory bus
poorer performance once you add higher levels of anti-aliasing
less texture mapping units / texture rate
less render output processors
less shading units
less pixel rate
less floating point performance
no dual bios
no Ln bios

We'll see what happens.

Which gpu was it replacing arc ?

CS would not budge for me on the 570SO replacement for my 480SO :(

Was miffed re loss of memory but overclocks very well and is very cool so will do

Runs at 960/2300 on mem max temp in games 70 bug mostly in 60s

Hey Buckster, I was hoping you would see my post. :)

It will / might be replacing my old GTX480 SOC (same card as yours before rma iirc). I think I made a good point, and a comprehensive one at that, but I expect they will stick to their guns. Not a fair replacement imho. A stock 580 would be more suitable, and logical.

Edit : update...

Dear Sir,

After consultation with our VGA team and forwarding on your previous e mail of request for the GTX580, I am informed by our VGA dept in Holland no other swap is available based on the existing model’s age and warranty left which in this case expiry will be week 47 of 2013. Their message reads thus:

According to our procedure, it’s better to tell the customer that they should contact their distributor for solution if they don’t want to accept our replacement. We, as employees, tried our best to update the replacement, and are not allowed to offer more.

I have already sent the GV-N570SO to the UK. You can keep it in buffer stock if the customer don’t want it.

Your other alternative solution then is to contact the original distributor/retailer as they may be able to offer more than the manufacturer can as these are the people you purchased from.

As per our terms and conditions and our end user service agreement file sent on 10th April:

· Products will either be repaired or replaced at our discretion
Replacements may include new or refurbished products (Replacements will be for the exact or equivalent product)

The swap item is being sent to us today anyway if you still wish it, please advise to the contrary if not. Item is due on Friday to our UK office from Holland. In this case we are sorry we can do no more.

Looks like I'll have to accept it. On reflection, at least I'll have a dedicated gpu again, and also, I will give them credit with regard to replying to my emails promptly; they have been pleasant enough to deal with which is important part of the experience.

EVGA turned around an RMA for me on a Geforce 660ti in 6 days

i did not select the advanced RMA and did not pay upfront. sent them my card and had a new one back within a week.

Very impressed this time round with EVGA

@Arc - still think its a bit "off" - like with me - they seem to "degrade" their offer depending on how long warranty left .... er - if any warranty left - then warranty is left - no difference whether 1 month or 2 years - especially since replacement product doesn't meet the original specs (ie it has less memory). What would happen if you bought the 480 SOC SPECIFICALLY for playing with LN cooling ? valid reason for buying it since it had a dedicated bios etc .... ?

that said - on a positive - to make you feel better

my 480 SOC - ran Valley Xtreme at 1200 something at the stock SOC clocks (ie pretty heavily overclocked)

my 570 SOC replacement - manages 1500 in Valley oveclocked

that said - the odd game like Skyrim feels a bit more juddery than I remember with the 480 - but hey the card works, it was in pristine condition (I think new) etc - so can't completely complain - and in most games I can't notice a difference other than its much cooler

Thanks. Despite the list of points I gave to them which I mentioned a couple of posts back, I have noticed that the 570 seems to edge the 480 slightly; I therefore assume that the higher clocks and overall efficiency win out over the long list of physical shortcomings it has, eg. less memory. :)

yeah the memory clocks to near 480/580 bandwidth, my memory runs at 2300 or 2370 depending on volts used - which is 185gb upwards :) memory is actually a bottleneck at higher clocks on the GPU - as the 570 SO is at stock memory speed out of the box

anyway enough OT for me - good luck on the new replacement card - and hope its a good clocker :)

Thanks, I should receive it by Monday or Tuesday. I am quite looking forward to tinkering with something a little different. :)

In case anyone is curious on HIS RMAs and to add to the records for future comparisons, here's my RMA progress with HIS.

I sent my HIS HD 7970 IceQ X² back to Overclockers due to the presence of artifacts under load (while on stock speeds/volts), they received it on the 23/04/2013 and I received a further email the same day saying it's been sent off for repair/replacement. I'm currently waiting on further contact and will update this post once I know more.

I received what looks like a brand new card (retail packaging) on 14/05/13. All is well!
