Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12 - 16th January 2013]

Pfft that happens loads team attacking then wanting the ball out :p

Its fine, he laid foundations for Liverpool fans to be in false sense of security with a few minor ones going our way, Fergie saving the trump card

I hope so because after his performance at the weekend Fergie wants to get rid  :p

And Skrtel and Webb blowing up after we won the ball back when Reina was down. :p Crucial to remember these things for next time we get Webb and everyone kicks off.

What about Skrtel? You're not trying to suggest that the foul on Welbeck was a clear and obvious goal scoring opportunity.

The Reina stoppage was fairly standard too. By the time anybody realised Reina was injured we were in the middle of an attack - he waited for the attack to play out and then stopped the game when the ball was in a neutral position. The same way he wouldn't have blown up had Utd still been attacking in the immediate aftermath of the injury.

Remind me again why we got rid of Pique? Or did he want to move.

He wanted to stay, there's newspaper interviews from the time of the transfer where he says quite clearly that he doesn't want to go.

Fergie moved him because we had Johnny Evans.

Yes, Johnny Evans.

Johnny Evans that is now our first choice centre back you mean?

Please provide these interviews because I remember no such thing. Pique drove the move, he wasn't forced out:

Gerard Pique this week agreed to join former club Barcelona, but before he left he asked ManUtd.com to publish a letter of thanks to the club, staff and fans...

I didn't want to say goodbye without thanking all the club personnel, including the football equipment manager, masseuses, secretaries, coaches, and especially my team mates, who have always treated me well and played a vital role in my development, both as a football player and more importantly, on a personal level.

Obviously I would have liked to play more this season, but I must say that despite some difficult decisions, the manager has always treated me in an exceptional manner, for which I am extremely grateful.

I am leaving with some very special memories: scoring a Champions League goal at Old Trafford, beating Arsenal in April on the way to winning the title and, most of all, the experience of being part of this fantastic group that won the Premier League and Champions League Double.

Finally, a special thanks to the fans for their warmth and support. I would like them to know that I will always carry United in my heart and I hope that they understand my decision to go back to my home club, FC Barcelona.

Thank you all and I hope to see you in the Champions League final next season.

Johnny Evans isn't our first choice center back the fact everyone else has been injured means he's been the ONLY choice at center back, and he's been part of our worse defensive record in years. I've posted the links to the interviews from the time of Piques transfer on here, numerous times in the past.

You are perfectly capable of using Google and the search function yourself.

I am more than capable, and yet I am unable to find anything along those lines.

My understanding is Pique was never really happy in Manchester. He also wanted more football but Ferdinand and Vidic were both in front of him at the time so Fergie clearly couldn't promise him he would be first choice. Barca came along and offered him the chance to go back and be a regular so he said yes.

He was never going to get what he wanted at United so to say he we let him go in favour of Evans is ****e, to be frank. I've no doubt if he was happy to be rotated for a couple of seasons we would have kept him and not signed Smalling or Jones later down the line. Clearly, however, you can't pass up the chance to have a dig.

Its not a dig its what happened.

Why the need to come up with some random rubbish about it being some personal agenda on my part, an agenda that seems to only exist in the fantasy land of your imagination?

"Hi hunny I'm home, cant stop got to go and bash Johnny Evans on the internet"

Lunatic talk.

I have genuinely never heard anything to suggest Pique wanted to stay at United, so I'd be very interested to find out about it.

Maybe I'm wrong about your agenda and you're just looking for new targets to moan about now Berbatov has gone.

For what it's worth I've never once read anything that suggests Pique wanted to stay and we forced him out, as far as I'm concerned it's always been fairly common knowledge that he wanted the move and Barca/Guardiola wanted the player and a deal was done

EDIT: In fact googling Pique wanted to stay at Man Utd like atpbx wanted us to do only brings up quotes from the player saying Fergie wanted him to stay but he wanted to leave....

“They had two great central defenders in Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, so it was tough for me to get a chance,” he said. I still remember the day I told him I wanted to leave.

“I went into his office and just told him straight away. I told him I appreciated him a lot, had had four great years in Manchester and enjoyed playing a lot, but that I wanted to leave to go home.

"Barcelona is my home and I was a fan of them since I was a child. He tried to convince me otherwise, but he understood completely and our relationship is still good."

I have never seen any other suggestion than Pique himself wanting to leave, too.

It's quite obvious that the interviews then and since that he would eventually return to the club he loves...

This is what I've been trying to say. :p

If we cocked up with anyone it was Rossi who should have got plenty of chances ahead of dross like Smith and instead went on loan to Newcastle who did nothing for him.

Thankfully Fergie has said Vidic is fine, no problem with his knee and he came off in the game against Liverpool because he had slight concussion. Great news.

Young is probably out of the Spurs game but should be fine after that.
