Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 19th September 2011]

In that case every other manager must be an arse. SAF done an interview the other day when asked about Lindegaard replacing De Gea, it was a relevant question due to Lindegaard's performance which was asked in a non inflammatory way yet he went off on a rant. Every manager defends their players.

Quote me his rant please. :)

I didn't see the rant but this is from ESPNs webby:

Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has made it clear he is determined to establish himself as Manchester United's No. 1, despite Sir Alex Ferguson's furious reaction to questions over David de Gea's status.

Lindegaard performed well in his first start of the season on Wednesday, making a number of eye-catching saves as United were held to a 1-1 draw by Braga in Portugal. But Ferguson raised eyebrows with his angry reaction to questions about whether De Gea - the £18 million summer signing - would retain his place as first-choice for much longer.

"David de Gea will play on Sunday [against Chelsea]," Ferguson said after the match. "That was the understanding we had before the game. I don't know why you ask these questions, you're just looking for stupid little things."

I think it was more because Fergie had already said in the pre game interview that De Gea was rested and was annoyed at being asked again. Don't let the facts get in the way of your agendas though lads. :)

I can understand SAF's annoyance at the press coverage on DDG but I thought he rather overreacted to that question. Lindegaard was excellent so it was an obvious thing to ask.

Are we ignoring the fact that Cole is meant to be a defender by trade and the big part of being a defender is tackling. Scholes wasn't great at tackling and yet he didn't put in tackles like that. Cole should have good a red and been banned for a few games.

Where have we heard that before....:)

He isn't wrong though tbh, NDJ/Milner/Hargreaves not fit to play. We really should still have beaten Fulham. He should have played Razak if he was that worried really.

Team for Birmingham should be our 2nd team eg Tevez, Balotelli, Johnson (needs a good performance or hes gone in Jan i think) etc
We need our strongest team possible to come close to beating Everton :(

Perhaps he should have kept hold of his squad players then? It's Mancini's fault he doesn't have a 'big enough' squad. Lol @ him moaning about playing a game on Wednesday then having to play on Sunday too.

Fulham doing the Poznan on Sunday, was hilarious when it happened;

Only to be then blamed for stagnating there playing careers and then being moaned at for keeping all the players to stop others from having them.

Well when you only have 2 midfielders it is difficult especially considering how hard the Napoli game was. He doesnt complain about the other positions.

He had a squad and chose to use the backup players, so that's not his fault? He could have easily bought some squad players this summer, and chose not to. You have enough players who are capable of covering you, even with a couple injuries - using squad size and having a game on Wednesday as an excuse is ridiculous :).

Backup players? We didn't use backup players?

He used Barry and Yaya. I imagine if NDJ, Milner, Hargreaves and Razak were fit they would have played.

Well i don't think Mancini anticipated having so many midfielders out at one time. He should have done maybe.

We do if they are fit, not so much if they are not.

He's such a brave soul, perhaps we should give him a medal?
He will have 4 by May. So i guess you could get it started now?

Cheers Gilly, I just wanted that guy to post the rant. I've seen the interview, here's a link, hopefully forumites don't play this in front of young children, it's FURIOUS.
