Growing Vegetables

Just got my Tomato seeds, got some Strawberry ones too  £3.99 though couldn't believe that. Will be worth it though hopefuly :D

Strawberry Seeds must be tiny, my girl went to scater some lettuce ones in a tray and managed to drop the lot in, so looks like we should have about 40 lettuce's lol

Now thats got me thinking what is the plural of lettuce

Addition to the vegatori famelia, the girls dad bought 8 brussle sprout plants yesterday and has given me four, so i think i will have a hell of a lot of them.

Heres what i currently have in the greenhouse,

I'm no expert but those tomoato plants look advanced for this time of year. My advice would be to stake and support them as much as possible because from my experience the weight of the fruit has often self destructed my tomato plants.

Yea staked the m up today, in the last week they have shot up. hasnt been sunny much more rain and cold so not sure what they are doing,

i watered them and played about in the green house for a bit, closed the doors and went away for about an hour came back walked in and the numidity was unreal, my glasses were all steamed up and i coldnt breath lol, in direct sun the themomiter went off the scale.

Anyone else manage out to their plots this week end?

I thought mines would have been turned into a paddy field, it was pouring with rain all of sat

I was up there for a couple of hours yesterday afternoon. My spuds are all up now so I gave my £2.50 car boot hoe a test run around them. It started to rain quite heavily just as I was having a coffee so I tidied my shed and did a bit of reorganising. I've now got 2 chairs set up in there but I need some more shelving on the back wall and some tool-hanging hooks. Just time to get some bird scarers up round the gooseberries before the heavens opened again and I went home.

I met my allotment new neighbours properly though & swapped contact numbers, a very good idea. As they said, just in case they come up & my shed is on fire!

Sowed some more grass seed in my garden, hopefully the lawn will be finished soon.
then its the path we (I) are making. Its going to be puple slate chips on the top.

Then we need to put the raised veg beds up and sow some seeds.

Went to Wyevale at the weekend and bought an apple tree, a hole reel and a soil pH meter. Turns out we have very acidic soil in some bits, then very alkaline a few inches away.

Just waiting for the sunshine to arrive, then its off to get manure and fork it into the soil.
we also want to ask next door if they will be keeping their greenhouse full of stinnging nettles and brambles as it is right now, or if we can have it! :D

Window boxes in flats

Hi peeps,

I am in a flat at the moment and wondered if there is a decent solution to having a window box. I have no balcony and thought maybe there is some sort of box that could accomodate just fitting off the main window somehow ?

Something i bet not many have thought about.

I went down to the plot yesterdayand there was green plastic mesh missing we had put down to use at a later date, couldnt find it anywhere so deffinetly wasnt kids as it would have been dumped, just hope no one starts stealing the veg as its not visible from the house, if it does it looks like next year we wont be growing down there, if it comes to it i may just have to tell her dad his garden is beign riped up lol

Oh also dug up some old rhubarb, got it in a bcket and going into somewhere nice and dark

The flat has a shared garden but nowhere decent to really make a safe plot for growing things.

I will be moving in the next year or so but wanted to grow something aside from my indoor chillis !

What's the deal with that then? I've got a couple of big, old rhubarb crowns that'll need thinning/separating for next year. Are you doing that in prep for next year or are you going to be growing them in the dark like they do in the rhubarb triangle?

Because they are in the dark the plant draws more nutrients and stuff from the soil so the stalks are better, however if kept in the direct sun you get better leaves as we all know due to photo synthesis, however you dont eat the leaves

Just been back up my uncles, nothing to do in greenhouse or plot so i thought i would clear paths in the garden since they havent been done in years due to my uncle tending to my grandmothers ilness towards the end of her life and my grandads :(

Oh also does anyone know if ants will do damage to the plants, i have been looking and most people say not directly but wil do damage of some type, i apear to have found a large amount in the greeny and dont realy want to start using ant dust to kill them and endupt infecting all my grub

Heres some pics of the house as most have seen in previous posts i talk about it a lot, so would be good to seewhat im on about. Pluss i want to inherit it ;P

The plot. everything here is recycled (inc wire) now full of spuds.
