GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Plenty of time to wait for a CPU/ Mainstream Nehalem won't be until Q1 2009, although according to reports from Computex it is a real screamer and also runs cool at an insane clockspeed.

Is it official that the 260/280 have not got dx10.1 support? Then again to fix this if its true would a driver update sort it or the acutal hardware is physicaly uncapable of using dx10.1?

It's the hardware (surprised at how few people seem to know this?!). Theres no possible way to make a DX10 card support DX10.1.

My opinion of the 280/260 being DX10 is because NV have mainly based them on the G92 core but have doubled the shaders, added a 512-Bit memory bus, and other smaller tweaks.

Dude, first of all go back to your post and edit out the web link to your PSU, as that shop is a competitor and you are not aloud to post links to them on OcUK forums,

Forum Rules - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/faq.php?faq=vb_faq#faq_vb_read_and_post

Now back on topic yes that psu is allot better and should handle the job handsomely, it comes with the 6pin and 6+2pin cable that you require for the new GPU's also.

i'm allowed back now. i've had my slapped wrist.
i didn't catch on as to the competitor comments but understand now :p

back to my psu not being suitable, i'm going to upgrade to the one i suggested next payday. it might be a reasoning as to why i can't clock my E8400 past 3.5 in Vista x64. when running x32 i had it stable at 3.6.

also with wanting a new GC i need a decent power sorce.

Oh dear, it's going to be a festival of price gouging!

"If the information we were told is correct, then Nvidia is having some problems ramping up the production of the GT200 series and this sounds all too familiar when it comes to new Nvidia products.

We’ve heard that even large distributors have a hard time getting more than a handful of cards and that is only if they place large orders of products that Nvidia’s partners have overstock of.

This isn’t the first time this has happened when it comes to Nvidia products and we’re not sure if it’s a deliberate scam to push up prices of these highly sought after cards. With the additional requirements of the distributors having to buy additional cards to get their hands on the new fast cards, we’re really starting to wonder what kind of games Nvidia is playing.

So in other words, if you want one of these new cards when they launch, if you see one for sale, get it, as you won’t get a second chance. "

Yeah its a shame, could be good for AMD though, as their 4850 should get a decent run if thats available in good numbers, all depending on price/performance of course.

Nehalem aside, everything seems to being going AMD's way. Intel's falling out with nVidia, nVidia's probable production issues...

Just to be clear Nvidia will be in trouble

They will have the fastest GPU at £400 which wont mean squat.

The 4870xt or 4850pro will give fantastic bang for the buck performance which nvidia wont have an answer to in the only price points that matter.

Profits arent made in the £300+ card bracket, they are made in in the £80 - £200 bracket and OEM add ins

Whatever is best within the £100-£150 bracket will capture most casual gamers hearts. Enthusiasts may stretch between £150-£250, but only hard core gamers, billy-no-mates, or people with money to waste will go much higher than that.

I will be tempted by the best £150 option. This should comfortably beat a 9800GTX and probably come close to a GX2.

edit: I have been happy with my 3850 Pro (oc to 900/2000) for the past 6 months. It still plays every game I own at 1680x1050 and only cost me £120 new. Who really need a top of the range GC or a stupidly large monitor for gaming anyway?

it plays crysis oh my

Yes, but how fast and at what settings? ;). 1920x1200 with 4xAA with 50FPS would be a decent start :p.

The good news is that if you put your computer on its front, you can use the vent to grill sausages.

Oh you just had to? :D. Ach well, the R600 got it tight as I'm sure I seen a few funny photo's of powering methods ranging from nuclear power stations to truck batteries.
