GT200 GTX280/260 "official specs"

Looks exactly the same as G80 to me

Nvidia has come up with a huge die measuring 24 x 24 mm, resulting in a die area size of 576 mm2. This area is almost 100 mm2 larger than Nvidia’s previous 90 nm high-end GPU (G80)

Damn I was thinking of going gtx260 for cost reasons but looks like it isnt just the lower ram and sps compared to the 280 there is more to it

Though if the 260GTX is like say £75-100 cheaper it certainly doesnt seem like a slouch at all! Some mouth watering specs there! Lets hope NVidia try and release at an attractive Price Point! I'm hoping a shade over £200 for the 260GTX though im probably just dreaming :p

Yeah, it looks like nvidia's built a decent performance margin in between the GTX260 and GTX280. It'll probably be an 8800 GTS 640 is to 8800 GTX scenario, either way, neither of the cards will disappoint if those specs are right. Also, woah, twice the amount of transistors than in G80 and still on a 65nm node (G92 on 65nm runs hot as it is)... These cards are gonna run proper f'in hot. :\

It's hardly irrelevant, haven't you seen all the fuss about DX10.1 and assassin's creed?

All the "Nvidia made them quit DX10.1" stuff? None of that focuses on ingame things, it's just a matter of "new feature, must have" like the inital DX10 people who got frustrated that their cards didn't really show itself in any games yet, and completely ignored the fact that the G80 and 2900 were/are fantastic DX9 performers.

Problem is unlike DX10.0 which didnt work at the time, performance was lousy, DX10.1 did work for ATi, pretty damn well and as initially described!

Well, there's that and a 20% performance difference with AA.
