meh, it doesn't need anything new, what everyone wants is everything done better. Unfortunately arcade style driving with completely unrealistic handling and the ridiculous suspension crap we get in these style games feels so incredibly wrong. non fixed camera while driving to make it easier to turn and instantly see whats coming as opposed to essentially driving blind down a street sideways for a bit till the camera adjusts, thats the most bizarre and pointless thing i've ever seen and is so common in these games. Neither of those has been fixed and would for me be almost the most wanted fix over previous games.
I don't need more cars, half an hour into these games you find your favourite car and go steal it all the time and ignore most of the rest. 20-30 cars is plenty hitting 50 is plenty.
What i want, and all games need is great story lines. Fantastic gameplay and terrible story makes for a boring game, terrible gameplay but fantastic story is also a bit dodgey. But inbetween that anything distinctly average gameplay with fantastic story ends up being a great game. Mass Effect hasn't got the best gameplay ever, yet is great because of a fantastic story, same for Kotor 1 and 2 and many games like them. Crysis actually does have pretty good gameplay, however the story was pathetically dull, cliche'd predictible and very few people thought it was a great game.
Vice City had a distinct theme, different to a lot of things around the time and had some decent scripting although a little too cliche'd but just pulled it off. For me, SA was just awful purely because of the cliche'd, well, everything. The scripting was terrible, unless you are the people who believe every rapper really was a hardcore gangster. The story was predictable and dull as anything. more open gameplay doesn't make it better, it moved on and had less to do on the engine front, and a lot more time therefore to design the cities. Time marches on, all games get bigger levels, thats due to bigger budgets, larger staff and being wanted by game buyers, that doesn't itself make it a better game.
Am i the only one whose bored that picking up a game like this I know the Jamaican guy will be on weed, barely understandable and be a massive racial stereotype? Will the Russian guy have to be a poor guy who had to fight in an Army and got screwed over? Will there be an idiot family member who gets everyone into trouble and lies a lot? Will there be a Mafia guy, a Triad guy, some witnesses to bump off, stupid cops....
Bring in professional writers of good films and tv, not the cheap crap cliche'd script writers that have been writing the same games for 10 years and are incapable of coming up with anything interesting anymore.
