Post up a video with full sized plates ;) It's kind of hard to give feedback on what is effectively you squatting down too far and standing up with next to no resistance.

Have you watched the videos in the OP?

Haha im going to mate.

Im following the SL 5x5 weights so this is why there only little. Rather get it right before I do more challenging weights. Will post a more weighty vid.

It would be incredibly rare for me to start someone on less than 60kg for deads. If you want to stick to the progression, put something under the plates to bring them up to the right height.

My arms don't even bend back that far I don't think :p

They should. Do what the Wizard says. I'm still getting an answer to your question about Olympic lifting for you, so don't think I've forgotten. :)

I can fap to that.

I'm sorry for requesting the pic Mr T... please don't hurt me :(

Whilst I could probably out-mobility you, I definitely couldn't hurt you. :D

Well, in order for your lift to be a standard deadlift, you need to use the correct setup. Deficit deadlifts (whilst a valid exercise, where relevant) are a bit different to standard ones, so stick some 450mm plates on. :)

Thanks Ice. Going to change this on my routine now. I was starting at 40kg

I saw this for taller people too. Would you recommend I separate my legs like this dude? Clicky

Hi all

Took your advice regarding dead lifts and I've got the bar resting on some 5kg plates (not ideal, I'll get some wood to make 2inch platforms).

How does the form look now?

Dead lift

Training log here - Log

I think my form actually got better as I increased the weight but I didn't record those, the video above is from the 60kg lift.

Double underhand grip? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

How tall are you?

6ft6 mate. Should I change to 1 under, 1 over?

Worlds longest legs! Long way to pull that bar.

Definitely sucks being tall, anything who says different is deluded lol.

Still going light but proper sized plates. I don't mind bending but I don't want my back to be arching. I feel too long doing these and Military presses.

Although Squats is abit of a journey getting down but I don't seem to have much problem with that.

What, and Behdad Salimi - the current Olympic champion in the 105kg+ weightlifting category - is that much shorter than you at a paltry 1.97m that double overhand is much easier for a much more technical lift? ;)

Come on. :)

Yes, being tall can suck for weightlifting purposes (I'm not going to pretend it doesn't), but if you want to do it badly enough, you have to suck it up. You could switch to mixed grip, but you have a technique problem that won't get any easier just by switching your grip.

Sort your technical issues out, and then see how you feel.

I think you misread my reply in what I meant. I thought your previous post with the Niiiiice as sarcasm (being the section of the forums it is, its kind of expected here). Im not bitching mate at all. :D

It was a response to the video, actually. The person in it was sumo deadlifting with what appeared to be a double underhand grip. Which just makes my brain hurt.

I would always advocate DOH hook grip regardless of the starting load when lifting from the floor. However, I am not a deadlift specialist (and currently not even an Olympic lifter... :( ), so...

Whats the deal with deadlifting non olympic weights? with them being lower

You're not lifting from the typical starting position (i.e. 12.5 inches or whatever off the floor). This makes it a slightly different movement, which means slightly different technique.

The 'variations' on this theme or 18" deadlifts for strongmen, and deficit deadlifts for people who need that extra pulling range (rowers, for example).

I'm guessing that's what you were getting at?

I train at home and only have standard weights, my olympic set was due to be ordered this month but low funds moved it a month.
