Had an accident this morning..

Pro tip: Presume EVERYONE else on the road is an absolute moron and could at any second, do something unexpected and/or stupid to ruin your day/life.

I bet all of you commenting on this poor chap have made driving errors/mistakes before and spoke with people for support. Matey it sucks and I feel for you, Ive have had a few mishaps whilst driving too, but we live and learn!

I'm sure everyone here has made mistakes, but the reason he is getting flack isn't because he has made a mistake, it is because he has made a mistake but is completely convinced it isn't his fault, its all her fault and that the whole thing is completely unjust.

He is completely in the wrong.

An amber traffic light means stop unless doing so would cause an accident. It doesn't mean 'Go on mate, you can make it'. It means stop.

Now, whilst you could argue that it wasn't safe for the woman to stop and it did 'cause' an accident, it only did so because the OP was driving far too close to the car in front and attempting to pass a traffic light which was set to indicate him to stop.

He failed to stop at a traffic light and was travelling to close to the car in front - the result was, he crashed his car.

It is 100% his fault and attempts to convince himself otherwise are why people are quite rightfully having a go at him.

Man up and accept responsibility for your actions. We all make mistakes, but the important thing is to recognise it was YOUR fault and learn from it.

He wont learn from it if he doesnt think it was his fault1

I've never rear-ended someone because I've been driving too close but if I had, I certainly wouldn't be broadcasting it for people to rightfully ridicule me.

You've missed what i said happend.

In retrospect, there are more important things in life, i put it up here as i wanted people's opinions/experiences on similar situations, not be 'ridiculed'.

Obviously takes a big man to ridicules someone sat behind a computer. :)

Then **** them back and move on, they are right though its your fault, what did you want them to say?

+1 on being too close and not thinking ahead properly.

And I'm a 17 stone, 6'3" cage fighter typing this on my titanium keyboard called 'Basher', so yes I am a big man. But I'm sat to the side of my computer as sitting behind it is stupid and impossible, the cpu exhaust fan would be blowing in your face and you would be terribly tangled up in all the wires.

Nobody's claiming to be the perfect driver or an infallible human being, but did the op really strike you as looking for support? Or as someone looking for reassurance that this woman was the one that caused the accident?

Yes but she was moving, we easily would have made it, half her car was OVER the line but she panicked and broke. I had no chance.

...is funny. 'I had no chance' - ask yourself why you had no chance. Were you trying to establish the brand of screw used in her rear numberplate?

I know i made the mistake for gods sake.

there we go.

how is your car in all of this, much damage?

I'll go hands-up and say that I have rear-ended someone at a roundabout. I guess its happened or nearly happened to all of us at some point.

The car in front moves off into a gap in the traffic flow, so one looks and concentrates to the right. Seeing that its a long gap one decides to go too but for some totally unexplained reason the car in front that had started to go has not gone. Bang. Only ever hit someone like that once. No damage to their car but their tow-ball went through my front end and rad just like superman's fist.:(

I've almost done this several times, mostly when learning. It's very tempting to think 'what a fool, why didn't he go?', whereas the reality is that they cannot be at fault for not moving when you thought they would. My tactic now is to look ahead and only properly look right once the car in front has passed the white line.

Probably one of the most common accidents I would think. Happened to me not long after I started driving; old chap in front pulled off and there was a huge gap in the traffic so I pulled off as well only to find he'd decided to suddenly stop part way into the roundabout  Virtually no damage done fortunately, but I did work with the old git which was awkward!

I'm the same now, after the odd time haing the same happen.

Another solution is to 4-wheel powerslide past.
