Had an accident this morning..

I'm sure everyone here has made mistakes, but the reason he is getting flak isn't because he has made a mistake, it is because he has made a mistake but is completely convinced it isn't his fault, its all her fault and that the whole thing is completely unjust.

He is completely in the wrong.

An amber traffic light means stop unless doing so would cause an accident. It doesn't mean 'Go on mate, you can make it'. It means stop.

Now, whilst you could argue that it wasn't safe for the woman to stop and it did 'cause' an accident, it only did so because the OP was driving far too close to the car in front and attempting to pass a traffic light which was set to indicate him to stop.

He failed to stop at a traffic light and was travelling too close to the car in front - the result was, he crashed his car.

It is 100% his fault and attempts to convince himself otherwise are why people are quite rightfully having a go at him.

Man up and accept responsibility for your actions. We all make mistakes, but the important thing is to recognise it was YOUR fault and learn from it.

He wont learn from it if he doesn't think it was his fault.
I am reluctant to admit this but Foxy has the situation summed up perfectly.

Got to rush, need to wash out my mouth with soap ;)

So, i'm driving to work this morning and as i come off the motorway and ascend up the slip road towards the roundabout, the lady in front decides to brake on a amber traffic light, i try to brake in time, but it's too late. I go into the back of her

I guess the insurance company will see it as my fault, even though she said it was bright and hard to make out what the traffic signal was but she still panicked and broke on a ****'n amber

*ahem*

YOUR SUPPOSED TOO!

Of course the insurance company will see it as your fault, wanna know why? because it is!

Frankly I'm with the general consensus here. OP, sorry chap, but this is your fault. I had an accident in a very similar fashion, only mine was an ambulance that popped out a side road without it's lights on. Nevertheless I was too close to the car in front so when they slammed on their brakes I went into them. You can blame the ambulance/traffic lights/car in front until the cows come home, but you were still too close. Let's hope you don't get a personal injury claim come from them...

You could argue it both ways. If she was going over the line and it turned amber as if she was going but then braked suddenly then you could argue that she should have committed to her decision to go rather than slamming on the brakes.

Then again you should have held back and slowed down ready to stop at the lights.

I hate people who proceed to rush through ambers just to save a 30 seconds. :o

All been said already, so take it on the chin and make sure it never happens again. Also be very happy that there wasn't a truck behind you driving the same as you or you'd be probably still be sat there waiting to be cut out of your sardine tin ;)
Currently have some temp lights set up near home and whilst on a walk with the landlord last night we watched 4 cars jump the red light in one direction followed by 3 in the other direction.
In London amber = go faster, red = go for it if no cops/cameras nearby, green = stop and chat to your mate in the other car next to you and threaten to bash anyone who complains.

Majority of the time I stop, but if it's an occasion where I haven't; it's frightening the amount of times I go through a yellow light, one where I'm so close I can see it turn red, but I look in my rear view mirror and there's someone glued to my back end, and who would have certainly went into the back of me had I stopped

It's almost the same as when your approaching a roundabout and it's clear but the person in front at the last minute decides to slam on their brakes. Almost been caught a few times like this because in the time it takes you to check the roundabout is clear for yourself the other person has stopped.
