Had an accident this morning..

Bad luck.

Sadly it doesn't matter if the women changed her mind on an amber. Heck it wouldn't matter if it had been a green light.

The only way for the accident to be the women's fault, would be if she'd changed her mind, whipped her car into reverse and backed into you.

I bet all of you commenting on this poor chap have made driving errors/mistakes before and spoke with people for support. Matey it sucks and I feel for you, Ive have had a few mishaps whilst driving too, but we live and learn!

Been driving 9 years and never crashed, you see I learned what I was taught, always keep the 2 second rule.

Yes but she was moving, we easily would have made it, half her car was OVER the line but she panicked and broke. I had no chance.

Was on amber and she was only half way over the line? Umm, surely you should brake then anyway regardless if she went or not?

Hate drivers like you, driving too close and trying to slip past before it goes on the red. Then you wonder why **** happens like this. Poor woman.

Go retake your test.

Sounds to me like if you may have increased your speed and shortened the braking distance to beat the amber traffic lights.

Highly likely description of events. You saw her apparently going for it at amber, thought "nice one I'll just speed up to make sure I get through too"...wtf!... bang. The end.

though she said it was bright and hard to make out what the traffic signal was

Fishing for somebody to confirm this is a possible defence.

So you went for a very very late amber gambler and are surprised that, when it went wrong, was your fault? :o

Hopefully not only the accident but also this thread will be an eye opener. Im fed up of nearly being swiped by someone attempting to get through a set of lights when mine are already amber/green

No, its a situation where the OP should have prevented it by not being too close, sure, she perhaps could have prevented the accident, but in no way imo should she have had to do so.

Oh I agree, it's only ever gonna be the OP's fault. But the third party could have prevented it by looking in their mirror and seeing how close/fast the OP was and consequently deciding not to stop.

Lesson learned OP, never assume that another driver is going to do something. I've had it before - massive clear gap and the person ahead starts to pull out... only to stop for no logical reason. Fortunately for me I was going slow enough to stop. But that near-accident taught me a valuable lesson :).

I'll go hands-up and say that I have rear-ended someone at a roundabout. I guess its happened or nearly happened to all of us at some point.

The car in front moves off into a gap in the traffic flow, so one looks and concentrates to the right. Seeing that its a long gap one decides to go too but for some totally unexplained reason the car in front that had started to go has not gone. Bang. Only ever hit someone like that once. No damage to their car but their tow-ball went through my front end and rad just like superman's fist.:(

Had a few close calls in this situation as well. I now keep an eye on the car infront and an eye on the traffic from the right.

Sorry OP I dont agree with you, you have to be prepared for other drivers to do /anything/ out of the ordinary and give them enough space.

Its kept me out of harms way a good couple of times by thinking 'if I was an inconsiderate driver, what would I do next?' and giving cars extra space when you normally wouldn't.

I still have close calls that if an accident were to have happened I technically will have been at fault, even though I'll argue to the cows come home that the other driver was being negligent. It wont make me right though.

I bumped the back of a taxi in Bristol many MANY years ago. He actually accelerated as if to go through the light, then slammed on the brakes. I was braking with the aim of stopping before the white line when my attention wandered slightly (staring at a very nice cleavage, there's honesty for you).

No real damage was done, apart from my xr3i conking out and needing a good alternator bashing. It was obvious that the cabby wasn't insured as he just looked at the damage and then promptly drove off.

What is it with you and whiplash? :p:D

well its a given isnt it really. i 100% expect a whiplash claim to be laid against the op.

i would be very surprised if this doesnt happen.

two scenarios can go down:

1. genuine. someone goes into the back of you. next day you wake up and cant move - claim for whiplash

2. non genuine. someone goes into the back of you. next day wake up and realise you can rinse the poor suckers insurance for a whiplash claim.

either way, its bound to happen
