Hanns-G HG281DP 28" Widescreen Any good, really??

wow, walked down the clockers to buy this today, wasnt 100% it was gonna be a good buy but thought why not!

My god its awesome, got my xfired x1900s running it through HDMI and it looks ace, but yes, defo turn the brightness down when u get it, hurts your eyes!!

and also running my freeview through the vga and looks good aswell.

You get loads of cables and stuff with it, if your using a freebox to watch telly you can get rid of your telly aswell and just run everything on this, thats what ive done and its good.

Strongly recommend this to anyone

projects14a......the cable is HDMI at one end and DVI at the other

theres also a VGA cable and a one from converting compotire to vga, ive nicked my comp to scart connector off my ps2 so i can run my freeview box on it, perfect

any questions your more than welcome to ask

I've just bought two HG281DP monitors that I use in a dual head setup with Vista. Let me just say that running your desktop across two of these is an absolutely fantastic experience ! :)

However, I have a slight "problem". After a while (the time varies but for arguments sake let's say 15 minutes) there will be a very quick glitch with the picture. The glitch is barely noticeable and so quick that you'd literally miss it if you blinked. I'm running both displays, at max res, off a Sapphire X1950 Pro 512MB AGP card - DVI. So I'm just wondering if anybody else has had anything similar happen or is it just down to my hardware ?

I have gone back to my 1950 pro, until I get my new card.

Only on one monitor (you are mad to have 2)

So far I have not had any flashes or glitches

That's good to hear. :)

It's not a major issue, but the fact I notice it is somewhat irksome. I'm assuming it's a hardware problem and would rather change my PC/card than the monitors.

I wondered whether I was before I got them, but now I couldn't be happier. Virtual machines running on one screen, the second screen for anything else I'm doing. It's like being immersed in one of those wrap around displays that you'd see at something like Microsoft research ... :p

does anyone else hear a slight whine from the screen?

Yes if I stick my ear next to the back. Just think its the LCD as my TV does the same just not to loud.

I get it worse when I first turn on or restart and the screen flickers into life.

its not annoying and goes once its warmed up.

Cheers,

My screen is doing the opposite, with no whine for a few hours, then once its warmed up you can definetly hear it.

hopefully not serious....:(

How long have you had it. Something I find they need to run in, made from being stored for so long.

maybe put the screensaver on and leave it

Is it me or has the price gone up? I thought it was £263 inc vat a couple of days.

Looking at buying one of these - at the moment I have a 19" Hanns-G one from when they were dirt cheap a couple of years ago, so I'd have no issue with the brand. I'll be doing a lot of audio editing and recording over the next couple of weeks so if they're good I'll pick one up (I can drive to OcUK, it's only 30 mins away from here) tomorrow or Friday.

Worth waiting for the next round of This Week Only's to see if it goes back down in price?

You might be better off waiting, I got burned also. Bought it for £250 ex vat, within 2 days it was down to £219 ex vat. Wasn't too happy about that but I suppose thats the way it goes! Its a very good, very big monitor for not a lot of money. Can't complain. And 360 looks a lot better via VGA on it, and that was my one problem with it. 1:1 would still be good but ah well.

Is there no pc software tha could add black bars to a 1080p image to prevent stretching? If that is possible I'd probably be interested.
