Hanns-G HG281DP 28" Widescreen Any good, really??

Heh. I've always believed the letters 'TN' are a big problem in themselves.

They give it 57% and recommend buying a Dell 2408WFP instead.
I'd put money on that review being 'sponsered' by dell TBH! ;)

TN obviously isn't ideal but at the price and with the panel response times being ideal for games it's perfect for a certain cross section of the market.

I use a Hyundai 24" TN. I could have gone PVA or MVA but didn't want poor response times or input lag. Couldn't afford the more expensive models at the time - the Hazro was not available then.

If i was buying again i'd probably give this a shot... for the money you can't lose IMHO.

Quick questions: does anyone else have fairly noticeable backlight bleed in the centre?

Also, anyone done proper calibration on this? I don't know how to, or have the software to do it! Also, is there any way to disable graphics card display adjustments? Because (by fiddling) I have found what looks good with my 360 doesn't look good with my laptop, which is a bit of a pain in the arse to be honest!

No backlight bleed on mine. You can buy dvd's/hd-dvd's/blu'rays for calibrating it but I can't be bothered. I just go for what feels right to me, life's too short for all that!

This is my first post on these forums, and I thought I would post my impressions of this monitor. I have been lurking here reading up which screen to buy. I was going to get the Hazro, but although a brave face is being put on it, the fact is the monitor is not ready for sale. The HP looked like the one to go for but again there seems to be some issues. It looked like I was going to have to wait, but then I stumbled into this thread.

I've always been a bit of a big brand kind of guy with computer parts. Previous monitors included Sony, Mitsubishi and Iiyama (in the good old days). So I was aware of Hanns-G, but would never consider buying one as it is cheap...therefore rubbish. Well, I'm happy to say I was wrong, this monitor rocks...

Now, I'm well aware that there are some people in the world that will be such perfectionists that nothing will ever please and probably for them they should steer clear..but for the rest of us, don't hesitate.

Firstly, it is huge, it will tower over you as you sit before it. Yes it is a TN panel but I have never had an issue with that as I sit directly infront of my screen, having said that, it is a very very good TN Panel. The viewing angles are as people describe...side to side is good the vertical is not as good. Mine came with no dead pixels, the backlight bleed is minimal, and to be honest seems to be bedding in as the hours tick by.

Build quality is really very good. The stand is good and strong and the adjustability is smooth and easy to use. The buttons on the side are fine, yes you do have to get used to not seeing what you are pressing but it doesn't take long to get used to it. The bezel is about the right thickness for the screen and is quite attractive against some of the cheap screen you see. The OSD is well layed out and easy to use.

Image quality for me is excellent. I am using it with an Asus 8800GT and the DVI to HDMI lead supplied with the monitor works very well. Windows XP found the driver for the screen and installed it in a flash. I'm mainly playing RTS games at the moment so input lag isn't something I have noticed yet, although a few rounds in Counterstrike felt no different to my old LG 22".

So, I hope my ramble has convinced another person to take the plunge and get this monitor as there is really nothing on the market that is as good value. I have no regrets buying this over the Hazro or the HP, and I reckon you won't either.

Nice

I was going to go down to OcUK to get a samsung t260hd, i am now going to give this monitor a chance, after reading everyones comments, saving myself about £150.00. :D

Mine arrived today. Brilliant monitor - very good image quality and I think the colours are very good, they look just like my old CRT monitor. No ghosting and very good built quality, feels rock solid.
There are however a couple of negatives, I have noticeable back light bleed across the centre of the screen so when watching movies where theres a dark scene I can see a while band across the middle. Not had it that long so it might need to 'burn in' yet. And I also have one dippy pixel in the bottom right corner, no biggie. Its also much harder for gaming as there's so much more objects and details to look at... lol.

I love it.

Mine has similar banding, in the middle, slightly to the left side and I've had it for a while now and no improvement. Usually not an issue, but as said in dark scenes, like films, I can see it if I concentrate. No biggie though.

are you both sure as it's not very loud at all and only noticeable if less than 1ft away in a quiet room. If it does have a problem i want to send it back sooner rather than later

Thanks

slighty OT wheres the desk from ? been after something like that for a while

Got it years ago from MFI IIRC goes in the corner of my room

Forgot to add, using Analogue the PQ is pretty similar, making it easy to have console via HDMI and pc via vga

Think ive just been sold! Ive got that Lg 22er sat on my desk atm...the HannsG looks great sat next to it :p
Dont suppose you could measure the height difference in them, ive got a shelf above my desk and im not sure the hannsg would fit under it lol

Well, the Hanns-G is 500 mm from Base to top.
