Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

check out some of that guys other items. he's selling an EZcool 80mm Fan for £999.95, and a Fractal Design 40mm fan for £999.90

Noticed a couple of people selling Galaxy S2 cases doing that a couple of months ago. They put auctions up automatically and repeatedly and then, when they run out of stock, they simply raise the price so nobody buys anymore.

What!! £100 for 1tb!!

Unfortunately it looks like the expected shortfall in production over the next few months is causing the distributors to up the price, and from what I've read several of the big OEM's have placed orders for many more units than they normally would (presumably to ensure they will have enough in their stocks to avoid any difficulties getting drives in time), and I think Acer have said they don't know if they'll be able to get enough drives for their PC's and laptops to be unaffected.

The loss of production is bad enough short term, and in the mid term some of the other plants may be able to/are stepping up production, but that will likely only help reduce the shortage, not keep supplies at the level they have been for a while.

It's also worth remembering that some companies may have already got orders in for large quantities of the drives well in advance of the floods, thus making the shortages at the consumer end worse (I suspect the likes of MS, Sony and the PVR/Cable/Sky box manufacturers probably order well in advance with a guaranteed purchase of a minimum of X per month).

Q4 next year? Doubt that very much. People are all doom and gloom with this. HDD pricing will be back to how it was by Summer 2012 latest imo.

The time I actually have money to spend and BOOM the prices sky rocket!??!?!

What if I bought a Seagate 2TB External Hard Drive priced at £79.99 at high street shop and pulled out the drive, it wouldn't be modded differently inside an external case would it?

Just got 2x 3TB Seagate Barracuda XT for £150 each (over £250 most shops) to finish off my NAS. I was going wait for them to drop back to £120 like the 1st pair I bought but that doesn't look likely anytime soon and thought I'd left it too late until I dropped on these pair from a shop on The Bay who probably hasn't realised the recent price increases!

No I did a quick disk-check on these and they are seagate 5900rpm drives if you are going same place as me.

so glad i bought my 2tb drive when it was £57 dont think i'd bother now if i had to pay £147.

Sounds strange but it actually makes sense now to buy external HDD from high street retailers and rip them out of the enclosures.

Are SSD prices also going up? noticed one or two jumped by about £20 on the Ocuk website today.

I didn't think they were as they aren't affected.

But my guess is sellers are putting their SSD prices up to take advantage of the high HDD prices...
