Hard Drive Pricing going up at an alarming rate!!!!

Samsung F3 1TB now £119.99!! This is just getting ridiculous now, would love to know how much retailers are marking up on these? Shameful!

I suspect given some of the info about how the wholesale price has increased that most of the retailers aren't making much if any more per unit, it looks like the price rises have been mainly before the end of the distribution chain with the retailers pricing based on what they're paying (as normal).

This is very true, some of the re-buys on these is so high I am simply just not going to bother to re-list for a while yet.

600GB raptors are nearing £400 cost from official ditribution.. by the time a margin has been applied along with VAT your talking in excess of £500! Thats on the heals of the 512GB Crucial M4 and i know what I would rather have..

I noticed this aswel, Any idea why the prices have shot up so much ?

Page one will tell you ;). Got something to do with water over my side of the world (my as in current residence rather than as in ownership as I haven't got that far yet :D).

Just to give an idea, over where i am the prices have also doubled / tripled.

When speaking to the local WD distributor to check the situation for a client I was told that there was no stock of 2.5" WD drives and it is unknown when they will see any more. A guestimate from them was 3-4months. 3.5" hard drives are limited to 25 units per retailer.

I picked up a couple of 2.5" Seagate 5.4k drives Tuesday at around 40 quid equiv each.

Margin on drives for retail here are around 1 quid per drive if you want to compete with the best prices but... the consumers here will go for price over service 99% of the time. Hard drives are a volume game. No volume, no game.

Am slowly crying out for storage..... Time for another data-cull. I really can't justify these prices.

The thing is... are we at the peak yet, or is it going to get worse before it gets better?

It will get better sooner than most think. These companies will not want to be out of production for long.

wasnt it said somewhere like a 8 week wait just to get other plants kitted to manufacture them?

I appreciate the drives that are appearing now most likely have been bought in at an increased price, however many stores and one in paticular I notice (wont name due to being competitor) has had over 300 of the Sammy 1TBs in for a while, the number has VERY slowly dropped but the price is now astronmical, pretty much guarantee they've not had to order any more in as well >.>

SSD's on the increase now too it seems, shopping around and cashback offers is your best bet i think so many places now artifically increasing prices on other kit due to HDD prices :(

I swear i got my samsung F3 1TB from OCUK for £34 on deal...or was that £344? im not to sure! because ocuk are known to me for good prices!

EU pricing is beyond ludicrous you can buy from a US website & pay less $ for £ even after import taxes/shipping its still cheaper so can anyone tell me a single good reason why anyone based in UK should pay these ridiculous prices???

Anyone else kicking themselves that they didn't splurge out on a few drive a couple of months ago, was always one of those things I thought "ach next time...."

I'm one, i had a couple of drives in my cart waiting for payday. when i went to order it went from £80 upto £150. no way i could justify that!
