***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

I'm using a h100i, I'm just about to spec myself a complete WC setup as I think it's the CPU temps that are causing it, even though they aren't close to the limit.

Are you sure its actually throttling ? Some bencmarks will only report the stock speed and not the actual speed its running at.

Monitor it with CPU-z. This will show the actual speed in real time.

It's a weird one, if I bench my system using fire strike extreme, it will report my actual CPU speed, but then I'll run it again 2 minutes later and it will report stock speeds, using prime95, CPUz reports actual clock speed.

Don't really know what's going on with my system, CPU @ 4.6, memory at 3400mhz, and two 970's in sli clocked to 1565/2108 I'm scoring less in most benchmarks than 290's and even 7950's :/

Yeah something def not right there, you should be smoking your old scores..

i heard there is a overclocking bug that was found on x99

JayzTwoCentz found when he was overclocking hes memory before The CPU it cuased the Chip to go weird & not send data to his PCI-E cards causing hes 3x 780 to perform the exact same as 1x 780.

maybe try stock?

he mentioned it in this video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvUeoBWn4DU

whats a safe voltage on this ready for my saturday build? im hearing 1.3v? (5930k)

Stock memory speed or stock CPU? Thanks for the link btw, kind of wished he'd explained in more detail about what he done to solve it.

My voltage for 4.6 is 1.35 atm, anything under and it failed to boot into windows. :)

Maybe twitter him I believe he answers them

Is there a setting in the BIOS to stop my 5930K from throttling?

It's currently set @ 4.6 with 1.35v, benchmarks are reporting clock speeds of stock (3.5), temps are fine too, under 100% load, maxing out @ 81'c.

There is on the R5E and it is called "cpu power thermal control"

smogsy i set myself 24/7 limit @1.35 with my cooling it gets to 82c on hottest core after 1 hour of running asus real bench 8gb stress.
Very tempted to to grab phobya nova. But cant see the point tbh. as after 2 hours of running unigine valley on loop in 3d with everything maxed cpu ended up at 72c on hottest core :P

Well i'm going for Ultra Stability, i don't need a high overclock, but i do want Stability. Im getting excited now too :D

probably just going to go for 4.0 to 4.2ghz for ultra stablity but extra speed:cool:

Got Coming:
5930K
32GB Team Group Elite Plus (2400mhz)
ASUS X99 WS-E
3x SSD's
1x 3TB + Whatever i have in my storage Maybe 2TB
Superflower 1300w Platnium
Prolimatech Armageddon CPU Cooler
2 x 980 Reference
Corsair 540 Case

its going to compact but a beast!

Right guys I've not overclocked for a long time so may need a little help so i don't do something daft.

My equipment is as follows and all running stock currently:

i7 5930k
Asus ROG Rampage V Extreme (BIOS 0706)
16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 PC4-21300C15 Memory
Corsair H105i AIO Cooler

So first off i went into the BIOS and set the CPU Core Voltage from auto to 1.3v.
I then set the Core Ratio Limit from auto to 45.
That gave me a new target frequency of 4.5GHz.
Everything else was left at stock settings which were mainly auto.

I then saved and booted to Windows, this booted without any issues, I decided to run RealBench 2.2 stress test from Asus and it failed. I went back into the BIOS and lowered the Core Ratio Limit to 44 giving me a new target frequency of 4.4GHz, Core Voltage is still at 1.3v.

I then booted to Windows and ran RealBench 2.2 stress test, this time it passed after a short 15 minutes test.

So as it stands:
4.5Ghz @ 1.3v failed in RealBench 2.2 stress test
4.4GHz @ 1.3v passed in RealBench 2.2 stress test

Now i will do a more thorough test later.

The memory is currently at the stock 2133MHz, so i thought i'd set the Ai Overclock Tuner from manual to XMP and selected 2666Mhz which was profile 1. (profile 2 is 2800Mhz)

This changed the following:
DRAM Frequency Auto -> 2666MHz
CPU Strap Auto -> 125
BCLK Frequency Auto -> 125
Core Ratio Limit 44 -> 30
Min/Max CPU Cache Ratio Auto -> 24
It also disabled Turbo Mode
Everything else is still stock.

Now my confusion is with all this XMP stuff, is this the way to overclock?

Do i set desired XMP profile to either profile 1 2666MHz (memory advertised at this speed and timing or profile 2 2800MHz?

Do i then proceed to change the core ratio to say 35 from the XMP profile of 30 to give me a target frequency of 4.375GHz then test to see if it's stable?

Or is it better to set my desired multiplier and manually select 2666MHz and manually change the timings which at 2666MHz are 15-17-17-35 and not touch XMP at all?

Also do any other changes need to be made... Like i say i'm getting a bit confused and if someone could give some simple advice on how to get the targets i mentioned earlier that would be major helpful.

Thanks,
Dave

Ok after my little essay above I have tried to get my head around overclocking a little bit more. I decided to start with a mild overclock of 4.2GHz, does this seem about right settings wise? It's stable in Prime95 and RealBench for the short while I tested it.

4.2GHz Settings:

Ai Overclock Tuner - XMP
XMP - XMP DDR4-2800 15-17-17-37-1.35v
CPU Strap - 125MHz
BCLK Frequency - 127.3
CPU Core Ratio - 33 (sync all cores)
Min/Max CPU Cache Ratio - Auto
CPU Core Voltage - 1.2v
Turbo Mode - Disabled

Every other settings is at stock.

This gives me:

Target CPU Frequency: 4200MHz
Target DRAM Frequency: 2800MHz
Target Cache Frequency: 3437MHz
Target DMI/PEG Frequency 101MHz

The memory is sold as 2666Mhz which is profile 1 in XMP but i used profile 2 which is 2800Mhz, presume this is fine?

Also is a strap of 125 and a BCLK of 127.3 fine to use for daily use?

Temps are fine so will be aiming for around 4.4 at 1.3v, is it a case of now upping the voltage and multiplier or will i need to change any other settings apart from the ones above?

Sorry to be a pain.

Thanks,
Dave

Testing C15 @ CR1.

4.35GHZ
3.5Ghz Uncore

3000Mhz C15-16-16-34-CR1 @ 1.35v

Vcore: 1.165v (offset)
Cache V: 1.1v (offset)
Input: 1.92v
System Agent VCCSA: 0.96v
