***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

So a 5930K overclocked to 4.4Ghz should be scoring 1300 in Cinebench R15 right?

Does not seem that much more of an increase over my [email protected] - that scores just over a 1000!

Boom's 5820k does just over 1300 points. But he's had his chip as high as 4.8ghz IIRC so I don't know what clock he was using.

I can get to 1300 but it takes a lot of effort and 4.95ghz or more. Haswells clock per clock are around 5-10% faster than my CPU but I can get 4.7ghz 24/7 so there's pretty much nothing in it.

My 3970x was £330 or so IIRC, so right around the same as the 5820k. Only real extra for me is the lanes. I got 5930k lanes.

But to any one considering X99? X79 is pretty much identical right now. Due to the slightly higher clocks of Sandy and Ivy you can make up the defacit.

I must admit though that I've been pleasantly surprised at second hand DDR4 prices. I've seen a few kits going for £150 which is £30 less than I paid. Mind you, I got Dom Plats, so I paid a £60 premium for those.

I'd be really interested to see what an overclocked X99 rig pulls at the wall though. They do use considerably less voltage than I do. Right now I'm using 1.38v for 4.7ghz. The H-Es use around 1.3 IIRC.

Tbh the deal I got in MM was to good to leave behind...im loving the new build I want to get it 4.4 on Lowish vcore if I can so I'm not rushing it I'm going up in stages checking stability as I go....

Yeah you did well mate. I paid a high price for my board (£220) but it's one of the best. It's massive, some XL ATX IIRC.

All in I paid about the same as a 5820k set up with entry level DDR4 :)

The Cb score of 1300 mr Boomstick cant of been at 4.8 GHz or something was running in the background slowing it down.
I get 1330 @ 4.4GHz so something was going on.
I was originally looking at going x79 with 3930k. But the prices they are going for on the bay were just too much in comparison to a brand new 5820k. New x79 boards were the same price ish as x99 boards. 2100 ddr3 seems to be going for about a ton second hand for 16GB.

Weighing it all up, there wasn't a lot in it. Then OCUK had a special on a 5820K and a Asus X99-s for £479 which coincided with 16GB of Corsair lpx 2666 C15 DDR4 for £125 on the MM ( Thanks Mr Boomstick :))
Quite chuffed with how it runs, especially compared to my old i5-760 @ 4GHZ.
A really nice upgrade for ~600 quids.

Yeah it's a massive upgrade coming from Lynnfield that's for sure. Enjoy ! :D

Yeah my 5820K topped out at 4.6Ghz score 1303, not stable beyond 4.6Ghz, at least not at any voltage I would be comfortable with :p

Gonna be weird going from 5820K > 4770K, however my boys will be very happy with their Haswell -E PC. Hopefully a mini ITX X99 be launched in the future then I'll jump back on :D

1300 @ 4.6 not 4.8 still seems low though.

Take it you had your cache and memory all running right and you were not encoding in the background :D

Can anyone recommend the ASUS X99-A board for overall features etc? I checked a review and the only downside i could see was some issue with lanes for 3 gpu's, but if running 2 (which is likely the most i would do anyway) it was no issue. Or are there better boards for the same/lower price?

You could wait till this is on offer again I managed to get it for £479 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-022-AS
But even at that price its only a fiver more expensive than the x99-a + the 5820k
The X99-s is described as the deluxe without the extras like wifi , and dual lan etc.

Something not right there. . .

When I go X99 I'm expecting more performance than that!

I would have thought it would be more like 1500 or thereabouts for the latest in tech with a 4.6Ghz OC.

:p

Exactly...... As said I got 1336 @ 4.4 http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=27514170&postcount=537
