***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

So, my big question at the moment is......5820k or 5930k?
I do a fair bit of rendering and game content creation so I will benefit from the extra cores over a z97 system. However, the likelihood of my going for more than 2x GPU's is pretty much non-existant. I probably won't even go crossfire at all (I've done it in the past and was very impressed) however, a single R9 290 should do me for the type of gaming I'm into.

I'm guessing, the 5820k is the one for me since I won't miss the additional PCI lanes of the 5930k? Also means I'll be able to put some faster RAM into the budget.

Thoughts?

Did you use that power adapter thingy that comes in the box or did you just put normal 4 pin into the mobo power?

Think yur talking about same thing I noticed om p24 I think of manual - a three way 8 pin adaptor? Gigabyte say its necessary for oc' ing cpu

no not used it, i don't have three 8 pins spare my Psu isn't crap either, Seasonic 850W Evo II, surely this can't be necessary??

Yeah I'm using Cooler Master 850W Silent Pro. I really don't think it will be necessary? Just wandering if maybe it would offer more stability.. Hmm..

If you are Not going for SLI/crossfire, Then 5820k is the easy pick imo

If you're only using one or two GPU's 5820K is ideal. Saves a lot of money over the 5930K and performance is epic.

My ud4 isnt even stable enough to flash to f9a bios

It reads the new bios file in about two minutes ( possibly a little slow but not too bad) but its the writing of the bios where it draamatically slows down, something like 3% every minute or so, nd I havent managed to get it past 20% before it restarted itself ( and messed up the main bios in the process)

In windows its ok for an hour or two, but have given up the bios upgrade after 3 failed upgrade attemps.

I dont think this board is stable enough for production with all the issues Ive had.

Am going back to my Haswell i5 /z77

Make sure everything is at default before you try and flash? Maybe even down-clock the memory to lower setting, then put back to normal after you flash?

I've settled on 4.0Ghz for 24/7 use. 4.5Ghz for benching. Using very high to make sure it's stable, fan speeds set to low (1200).

Settings are,

Auto voltage + 0.050v
Ring V set to 1.15
Slight bump on other voltages.
Memory at default speed 1066mhz.

I believe I tried to install that option but it didnt install ( all the apps are seperate installs from what I could seee) Ive looked at a few things like v tuner etc but due to issues havent dabled

Laughs - if omly I had had a chance to get everything off default

Memory was the cheapest ddr4 so I suspect its at the lowest setting anyway although I admit I didnt check

Lol, that doesn't sound good then. Maybe try and boot into Q flash or try within the bios itself. Failing that within Windows?

Lol, that doesn't sound good then. Maybe try and boot into Q flash or try within the bios itself. Failing that within Windows?

Im back up and running with my i5 /Win8 , Im going to talk to OC in the morning.

Cheers FrankJH, yeah I just wandered why some ram wasn't available. If uksoliderboy's is the same then it's all good.

I'm going to persevere with this mobo. Gigabyte will get there with the bios updates, and I only paid £150 for it Whole setup was a bargain imho.

My windows is the same, windows 7 ultimate 64-bit, showing as 8GB in control panel, but 16GB via CPU-z but also 8GB in the bios :/

I had that on release BIOS on the Deluxe. Doesn't say it any more since flashing. It's something on the board reserving it but not sure what. Wasn't fussed
