Have things got out of hand?

They most certainly have.

Doesn't say if the security woman was also wearing some kind of head gear, Says she was Muslim but still a bit of an overreaction on her part.

Any pics, was she fit ?

The times I have been through security at Heathrow I have never been anything other than amazed at how completely lax they seem. Chatting away to mates about what they did last night, etc etc. There just seems to be no seriousness applied to what they are doing.

This is in direct contrast to the attitude you get in the US - where everyone is friendly but quite obviously very much focused on what they are doing.

My experience is quite the reverse - US security is incredibly lax while ours is by far the most stringent. I flew to the states just after the arrests in the liquid bomb plot. At LHR security officials went through our hand luggage at the departure gate so it was impossible to smuggle any liquids on board. Within the USA I took four internal flights, on two of them I saw other passengers had managed to smuggle their own liquids on board.

Then I have to question why wearing a cross is not classed as 'religious dress' for Christians, given the vast amount of them that wear them.
It's not as simple as that.

I'm far from an Islam expert, but afaik, Islam teaches women to dress with modesty, decency etc. If one wants to cover their face as a result of this teaching it's up to them. I personally don't know any Muslims who cover their face. I also know many Christians who don't wear crosses.

Once your airside in the US you won't likely need to go through security again, so in all likelihood those people had bought the liquids once they had cleared security. If you're flying to the US from outside, not only do you need to clear local security but you often need to clear security at the gate as well if the local security wasn't stringent enough.

Please stop it. That's the third time you're implying some sort of Muslim vs White thing.

If he didn't have anything against her being let through without further checks then he would have kept his mouth shut and this never would have even happened!

Please try to make sense of my posts before just shouting out "Muslim vs white" or whatever.

Well, actually no, you've been doing that lol. I've just been trying to make sense of your reasons to assume he has something against this woman. you said it was clear he did and despite me asking twice you still haven't told us why you think this. I'll say it again, there was no evidence to support that theory and it seems you are taking sides - I'm being impartial here.

For the third time, Because she didn't set off the metal detectors, she had every right to be let through just like anyone else who didn't set off the metal detector, regardless of facial visibility since this isn't passport control.
Yes I know she didnt get searched because she didnt set off the detector and he should have put two and two together. I know this, you know this. He probably knows it too. Still no reason to assumes he has anything against her.

The old man should be pushed into a well for being such a horrible little man trying to be a big boy in an airport.
Careful! james.miller might think you're sticking up for the Muslim woman!

why would I think that?

Mr Jones, a former member of the Household Cavalry and retired fireman, added: “I felt that I made a logical observation. That while everyone [else] was being subjected to an invasive search it was illogical that someone should be let through with their face covered. I am not opposed to having this level of security but it must be equal for all.”

Mere observation, stupid comment, whatever. Call it what you want, but it isn't racist.

Yeah, really sounds like a hardcore racist trying to be a big man.

Not. How can anyone think that?

I don't know, ask Asim!

Might be true now, but not true back then - passengers were prohibited from taking onboard any liquids in hand luggage at the time (I had to endure constant Homeland Security announcements in Chicago while waiting for my connecting flight).

Ok, I've ascertained that you're just a big fat troll.

I clearly stated earlier that the comment WAS NOT RACIST. Yet you are still trying to say that I'm taking sides and thinking it was racist. You are clearly trying to make me look bad.

I've made my point once (twice more especially for you). I have nothing further to say or prove to you.

The lesson here children is not to make silly comments in airport security. I thought this was pretty much common sense but clearly not.

Ah yeah, your right, I remember my dad was grumbling as he had bought a bottle of water in the airport and got one free and they confiscated his 2nd bottle of him :p

You took sides when you decided he had a problem with that woman, despite the article stating multiple times that he did not and that he told the security staff that he did not. You are also trying to avoid answering simple questions, Asim, so apologies if you think I'm am trying to make you look bad, that really isn't the case.

Loving the irony, good job! If only it was intentional.

No irony meant on my part, intentional or not

A bomb wrapped around her face?

Of course not, but like prision, you'll hide stuff wherever you can to get it past security, I'm not suggesting she walked with a belt of C4 strapped to her face, but if someone was wearing a burka, pretty sure they could (and probably have) managed to import all sorts of illegal substances/devices

Ok, I've ascertained that you're just a big fat troll.

No need to throw the T word around, especially when prefixed by those words

Regardless of anything, to me if you want to make a public statement, this is what you do.

Anybody else who just wants to get on with life, would respect the rules and remove the scarf.

lol

Boy oh boy. Of course he had a problem with THAT woman getting passed without showing her face, why else would he make a comment about specifically THAT woman?

That's the main point of the whole incident!... The fact that he had a problem with a fellow passenger and the fact he made his feelings about said passenger known to a security guard!

If you honestly believe he made that comment because he was pleased and happy that she passed without showing her face, then well, I can't do anything about that. We'll just have to agree to disagree :)

It is a joke, a Burka should be ripped off a woman if she wont remove it, no need for them in this country, wear them in your backwards country but not here.

Give an inch and they will take a mile.
