Have things got out of hand?

so what would have happened if he went through with a scarf round his head then ? hope he found out after all that hassle

Probably nothing... Other than a few odd looks.

You would and should be asked to remove it, the same as outside coats, gloves etc. If he had a scarf around his head 100% he would have been asked to remove it, the same as if it had been round his neck.

Try it next time you fly.

A racist and now ignorant and unintelligent, any more insults for me?

Well if those insults bother you so much, why not try and do something about them....i dont know perhaps learn about the things you rage against:confused: It may help you to better understand things from their point of view. Nothing wrong with learning about others culture or religion...dont worry muslims arent out there to convert every single person ya know lol.

He doesn't have a single point on his drivers license.

This is what stood out for me funnily enough.

ANYWAY, the other week I was walking round the hospital and saw a Burqa wearing lady approaching me pushing a pushchair and nodded when she went past me.
I turned around and noticed she had 5" stilleto heels on which made me wonder what else she was wearing underneath

How do you know it was even a woman?

Utterly ridiculous. How on earth is his comment racist?

What's even more ridiculous is how the Muslim guard jumps on the bandwagon as well. Pathetic idiots.

Like i said previous. Its the society we have created that has got everyone scared to say what is right. This is because everyone puts religion into the mix when its purely a matter of common sense.

Its a sad pathetic world. pi$$es me right off.

It is simple as that...

But people are scared to say what they want and what is right, EXACTLY like this guy did. Where did it get him, in trouble,

I dont care what other people do, can walk around with a bucket on their head for all i care. I do expect to board a plane knowing everyone is searched and ID'd.

Its just common sense, yet people start chucking all sorts into the mix because of the society we have created.

Its a sad state of affairs. :(

They were...

You don't need to see someones face when going through security, hence why the blokes comments were unwarranted (and rude).

You only need to see a face at passport check moment which is why this whole debate is stupid as its someone getting upity and trying to tell someone how they are doing their job wrong. That is why he was held.

Happens all the time, you see people being arrested for trying to tell the police how to do their jobs. A society full of people being the nosey busy body from next door is the least desirable thing.

They can detain you at airport security indefinetely until you apologise for a comment that they've interpretted as racist? Interesting  I'm surprised this was allowed to continue when the police officer was involved.

Not everyone is security checked to the same standard!

Scarfs need to go through the scanner or they don't. If they pull all the non-religious scarfs of people and put them in a tray, but leave all the religious ones, then people are not being security checked to the same standard!!!

Scarf doesn't really equal a burka though does it.... And common sense clearly won over that kicking up a fuss over a religious headdress is not worth it.

They are applying a standard that a commonly understood religious item can be worn through the scanner but a fashion item can be taken off.

Especially since when has it ever been cold enough to warrant wearing a scarf through security in an airport! Quickest way to look a fool other than insisting on wearing sunglasses inside.

It was face veils and how many non Muslim women wear a veil?

It was a clear message to Muslim women.

Just because I hate being wrong, and even if you aren't participating in this thread anymore... The law in French is:

interdiction de la dissimulation du visage dans l'espace public

In English that translates to

The banning of concealing of the face in public spaces

(I translated it literally in case you wanted try and catch me out on that.)

In good English, that translates to: prohibitation of concealing your face in public spaces. Now, how does that target anybody specific. As others have said, it isn't just an issue of race, but more of security.

what's burka got to do with anything? article mentions hijab, which isnt much different to a head scarf.

Caught up in the Cheets going mad bit.

Hijab still doesn't equal scarf though does it. Not like Hijab is worn just because it is cold or because the wearer wants to look "cool". Airport security don't make disabled people go through the same procedures because it is unfair on them so why should someone who's religion requires them to wear a Hijab be forced to take it off because of someones fascination that it could be like a scarf.

Doesn't make any sense unless the goal is to make the individual feel like they are doing something wrong by expressing them selves in public.

My point is: the logic behind requiring a scarf to be taken off for security is exactly the same logic that says a hijab should be taken off.

The only reason it is not done is a PC caveat.

A Disablity is a completely different story, and I would hope a disabled person would understand that peoples safety is priority #1. So they shouldn't kick up a fuss about having to be searched the same way every else is, admittedly it's slightly harder for security to search a wheelchair bound person, but when have you ever heard of a disabled person hijacking a plane. Sure they can't exactly break out the rubber gloves and KY but the do have procedures in place to search a disabled person without degrading them.

They should be forced to remove hijabs, they choose to live or visit this country, they should live by it's rules and regulations. I would hope security would make every person wearing a hijab or burka remove it or at least go into a secure room where they can at least be ID'd properly for the sake of security.

Just like I would expect security to ask anyone wearing a hat/bandana/scalf or any other manor of headgear to remove it and have it searched

That's what they currently do. It's even been mentioned in this thread already....

This country is also one that respects people's beliefs.

Not sure how a disabled person, who is disabled by circumstances not by choice, is the same as someone wearing a Hijab which, even by their religious guidelines, is complete choice...

Comparison makes me
