Have things got out of hand?

By the by, Hijab wearers ARE forced to remove their facial coverings when it is required to check their identity. This is done at other areas e.g. Check-In, when boarding etc. I have NEVER had my passport checked at security to confirm my ID.

There has been instances where people wearing these coverings have been refused passage when they have refused to take their coverings off.

That's what they currently do. It's even been mentioned in this thread already....

This country is also one that respects people's beliefs.

Sorry but when it comes to whether or not someone could possibly have a bomb on them, **** peoples beliefs, they choose to believe whatever they want, doesn't give them any legal right to be above the law or security rules.

They should be forced to remove hijabs, they choose to live or visit this country, they should live by it's rules and regulations. I would hope security would make every person wearing a hijab or burka remove it or at least go into a secure room where they can at least be ID'd properly for the sake of security.

Oh dear oh dear.

How many times do I (and others) have to mention that:...

THIS WOMAN WAS NOT GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT.
ALL MUSLIMS ARE PROPERLY & EQUALLY IDENTIFIED ACCORDING TO PASSPORT CONTROL REGULATIONS.

Sorry but when it comes to whether or not someone could possibly have a bomb on them, **** peoples beliefs, they choose to believe whatever they want, doesn't give them any legal right to be above the law or security rules.

Oh my gosh, you've said it AGAIN! Therefore I will also make the point AGAIN!

THIS WOMAN WAS NOT GIVEN SPECIAL TREATMENT.
ALL MUSLIMS ARE PROPERLY & EQUALLY IDENTIFIED ACCORDING TO PASSPORT CONTROL REGULATIONS.

What?

Did you even read my post?

The ID of Muslims (wearing whatever) is checked and they also go through a scanner.

How is that different to anyone else?

I work in security, for a call centre, we employ a large number of people of different religions, in fact a lot of the girls here do wear hijabs and all manor of religious clothing and I can tell you, if any of them came in wearing a burka or some other garment that covered their face (including motorbike helmets) I would and have asked them to remove it so I can check their ID against what they actually look like, and none of them have had an issue with it

Yes I read your post

Congratulations.

Congratulations.

Don't be silly, its a matter of security, especially since we work very close to the police station, we have had bomb threads called in in the past due to our location, we used to share a building with the tax office, that was fun lol.

Like I said, It's a matter of security, It's my job to make sure the the staff in this building feel safe at work, that means I have to ID every single person who walks through the door, regardless of religion

Iran and Saudi Arabia they have to wear the veil by law.

The rest of the world? Not so much. And it's not enforced by their male counterparts.

Educate yourself boy.

I'm pretty sure you don't have to wear a full face Burqa in Iran by law. Hajib/hair covered yes but not full face.

Right.

I'm still not quite sure what point you're trying to make.

I'm not going to bother spelling it out to you again but do you really think that Muslims travel the world without even being ID'd?

I'm even more baffled that you think this way given your job!

I never said muslims travel without being ID'd, thats crazy but the article in the OP was clearly blown out of proportion.

Everyone should be treated the same, but in reality that rarely happens. Put the shoes on the other feet, if a person who was wearing the hijab was stopped and searched and the white guy walked straight through, would the media not blow that out of proportion and say the security guard was being racist by singling out somebody because of their religion? when in fact the security guard is just doing their job?

He never really had a point did he - he was going through metal detectors, not passport control. With that in mind, it does seem a bit of a silly thing to say, but they shouldn't have kept him like that.

wann bet you could do it while wearing a black balaclava?

A Disablity is a completely different story, and I would hope a disabled person would understand that peoples safety is priority #1. So they shouldn't kick up a fuss about having to be searched the same way every else is, admittedly it's slightly harder for security to search a wheelchair bound person, but when have you ever heard of a disabled person hijacking a plane. Sure they can't exactly break out the rubber gloves and KY but the do have procedures in place to search a disabled person without degrading them.

Just like I would expect security to ask anyone wearing a hat/bandana/scalf or any other manor of headgear to remove it and have it searched

Not sure how a disabled person, who is disabled by circumstances not by choice, is the same as someone wearing a Hijab which, even by their religious guidelines, is complete choice...

Comparison makes me

Religion is not necessarily a choice either. It seems an unfair assumption to say an individual has chosen to be a part of a religion therefore can choose how they express it and choose which rules to follow and how strictly to follow them.

I use the example of disability because people with a disability are given special treatment within airports to remove any potential humiliation factors a disabled individual might feel passing through security checks in the normal manor. I think forcing someone to remove religious a headdress, despite their religious belief's, to also be a form of public humiliation, which was the intent of the old bloke in the article and is disgraceful.

Again! For goodness sake why don't you seem to understand anything at all?

MANY Muslims wearing hijabs trigger the metal detectors and get frisked every-single-day while any other person who doesn't trigger the detectors walks right on through!

How is religion not a choice? every chooses their own religion, even if they're born into a specific one, they don't have to abide by its rules.

Religion is a choice, disability is not.

I'm a very angry man

.....so? what point are you trying to make?

MANY Muslims wearing hijabs trigger the metal detectors and get frisked every-single-day while any other person who doesn't trigger the detectors walks right on through

Thats the entire point of security

Muslim isnt a skin colour, and the veil isnt a race, therefore I have absolutely no idea how this could have been considered as racism by anyone.

I'm not making a point. I'm refuting your ridiculous scenario of "What if white man walks through while muslim lady is frisked". I'm stating that it happens every single day! How are they not treated the same?

Religion is a choice, disability is not.

I beg to differ, many a person will argue their religious conviction is not a choice at all (born into it or converted over time). You cannot argue that just because for you religion is a choice then it must be a choice for everyone (ironically similar to religious conviction there too).

You cant possibly be born into a religion. No one is born with belief in any religion. you can be born into an environment that forces religion onto you, but it is 100% always everyones choice whether they end up believing in it or not.

I don't know about that, in some cases it's effectively brainwashing.
