Hazro - Any Update?

Lol, that's not the first time OCUK have done that. When I bought my 26" the 24's were on sale and they forgot to make the B-Grade ones match.

Even the new ones don't guarantee no dead pixels BTW.

Well exactly...it's all still pot luck if you get dead pixels or not. I think it is a scandal tbh - why should two people paying the same ammount get different screen qualities regardless of whether it is only cost effective to the end user to have a "tollerance policy" instead of perfect screens every time.

Good news.

"Warranty Services will dispatch a replacement monitor this week and an update will be sent immediately."

It is the black 24" WI.

Looking forward!

Can anyone with 2.1 firmware test using a wii and composite cables?

I have 2.0 firmware and using composite it looks pretty blurry, I was interested if 2.1 firmware fixed this.

The Wii only does 480i/576i doesn't it? Your monitor is effectively a 1080p display for this purpose so that's quite a lot of upscaling to be done plus composite is going to look poo at the best of times. You might get better results using a VGA cable for your Wii, but I doubt a small firmware change will do much.

Anyone heard any news about the new(er) hazro models due out in early 2009?

From early speculation and scraps of information in this thread they were due to be revised models sans existing faults.

Uh oh, I think I might have fallen victim to a B-Grade "Queued in warehouse" problem....it's been stuck in that status for a couple of days now.

I've heard that means stock shortages for normal items but I'm guessing for a B-Grade item that'll mean it has been already sold before I got it or it's been lost somewhere :(

Think I'll leave it a week and see what I can wangle....I really wanted it for £439.99 :(

Hello,

I had one of these 24" monitors when they first came out but returned it as there was a few issues with them (i know a lot of monitor have fualts when they first come out), but the thing is I really like the image quality it had and was thinking of getting another one. So my question is has most of the kinks been iron out? Should i get antoher one or should I wait for the new model which should be out some time soon?

it's the 24" I am thking of getting

Thanks

It think it's fair to say that any Hazro screen (24 & 26") that you get now will have the rev 2.1 firmware on it that fixes the banding issues that were apparent with the original firmware.

However, the green snow issue (which seems to effect the 24" version the most) is still apparent despite the new firmware and it's difficult to see if that is an issue with certain graphics cards, vga/dvi cables or shielding around the monitor inputs; Hazro have yet to come up with a successful fix so it's a bit of a lottery.

Having said this, I'd imagine the product would be recalled if that particular problem was very widespread.

Remember you have the right to return the screen within 7 days under the Distance Selling Regulations (DSR) act 2000 if it turns out to be a disaster so all you'd lose would be the cost of the return shipping back to OcUK if you make your decision quickly.

I haven't seen anything but I'd like to know if there were versions with proper backlight control available.

Yay got onto customer services section of this forum (really good service!!) and a really nice chap called Telescopi helped me out in a very friendly manner and personally found the monitor which should arrive with me tomorrow!

Here's hoping it's gonna be ok! :)

Yay it arrived today :D

Looks bloody awesome...couldn't see or tell anything "B-Grade" about it yet though I only had about 10 seconds when I was home at lunch time to have a quick look.

The thickness of the display is amazing...probably about 3" deep!

All the packaging and cables were present and correctly, looked newly packaged and everything...looks brand new to me!

I had a very brief opportunity to plug the display into the power brick briefly and made sure it turned on (which it did fine). Had a look at the display and found no discernable bright/stuck pixels on the black "standby" screen and didn't see any backlight bleed in the light of the day so I'm smiling nicely at the moment :)

Will plug it into my PC and put it through it's paces tonight, run a few tests and take some photos...probably make it into a mini-review on a different thread.

Well I tried it out last night unfortunately only briefly (about 15 mins) and I've got mixed feelings really (this is all from a gamer's perspective)...

Pros:
- Absolutely no input lag; makes such a difference compared to my old Dell 2001FP and feels like a CRT again instead of feeling like being "on ice"
- Very sharp response time, no ghosting whatsoever. COD4 looked crystal clear when moving about rapidly
- Amazing image quality in games; most impressive
- Black depth I found was not too bad! I was able to discern the 2nd/3rd black square on the lagcom LCD tests
- Backlight uniformity didn't seem too bad, no major backlight leakage

Cons:
- Colours looked either washed and lacking vibrance in Windows (might be because of the 92% NTSC colour space "wide gamut" of this monitor)
- Seemed to get an annoying "blip" in the backlight towards the top of the screen when I was on the lagcom website every 15 secs or so...whilst the main body of the screen looked fine (in black) the white/grey toolbar of IE (yeah I know use firefox) at the top of the screen would "flicker" very briefly...I'm not sure if that was the screen having only been on for 10 mins or so.
- Screen seemed almost "too big" for use on a desktop...found myself thinking "hmmm, this seems ridiculously big!"
- Pixel pitch of the screen combined with it's large size and H-IPS setup made the screen look fairly grainy up close
- Discovered a complete bright pixel (stuck on red) about a 1/3 from the left hand edge of the screen about 1/5 of the screen from the bottom. There is also a bright green sub-pixel on the mirroring side of the screen (1/3 from the right, same distance from bottom). Both aren't too invasive however and I don't notice them during normal use...
- OSD is quite frustrating to use; as others have mentioned, once you highlight an entry and hit 'select' there is no indication of whether you now have 'control' of that item...especially annoying as the OSD is only touch sensitive without buttons

It's strange, most of the issues I was worried about haven't been a problem; I never thought the colours would appear "washed out" at any point and I certainly didn't expect the screen to be showing such nice blacks and not be too over-bright as well!

Need to do much more tinkering tonight and make a decision whether to keep it or not. 26" does seem really excessive at the moment though - will have to get used to it!

With the colour issue, if you go into your Nvidia control panel go into colours and move the digital vibrance slider up a bit.

But then when viewing wide gamut content or running ARGB apps (future web browsers, Photoshop etc) the colours will be even more out of the correct range!

This is the issue with wide gamut monitors today when used in an everyday environment outside of purely work based creative environment where you don't have to worry about washed out colours because the sole use is in colour managed applications.

Until wide gamut monitors are standard issue across the public market this issue will remain.

I had the exact same colour issues with the HP 24" before going back to the 24" SRGB Hazro.

Good idea on the didgital vibrance slider idea....I will have a play with that.

Being primarily a gamer, I'm not really too bothered with colour accuracy, rather just how it 'looks' so bright, over-saturated colours is just my fortee :D

In game is looked bloody awesome I must say!
