Hazro - Any Update?

I had a chap from Hazro come out to see us too in Bolton - I think he was called Andy [big chap]...have his card somewhere...nice guy and seemed to know his stuff...so what does one do to get a hazro engineer out?

My 24" got picked up today by by the Feds (heh!).

I got a call on Thursday at 7:45 PM (!!) from Luftur just phoning to find out about the missed collection attempts by Fedex as they tried to collect earlier than expected so re-arranged for Monday and it seems they turned up today...

Anyway I spoke for a good while with him and discussed what some of you have reported about the backlight being dimmed and the RGB controls not working etc.

I'm quite confident that the luminance will be closer to 12CDM/2 but he did confirm it would not be dead on out of the box, to get this calibration would be needed and they'd be interested in hearing my results after I get mine back Early next week.

The reason the RGB controls do not work is because 2 things:

1) The banding fix takes up more memory on the monitor than expected so the RGB controls had to be omitted to account for this extra memory usage.

2) For the above they went along the path that Apple took on their cinema displays which don't even have an OSD as everything is controlled via DDC/Ci through software.

Rolling on from point 2 I mentioned that DDC/Ci was confirmed as not working on both Vista for myself and others and that I had used 3 different pieces of calibration software to confirm this and that because it was not used it would explain why my calibration results came out better after adjusting RGB values on the monitor since DDC was unable to work correctly.

He confirmed this as odd and would be looked into. The snowing issue has been minimised it seems by shielding but to remove it a document will be provided for Powerstrip to adjust some frequencies for people to change to fix the snow issue who have it on their screens.

I mentioned that I'm quite happy with the fix and RGB not being changeable as long as my calibrated results are at the least the same as my previous calibration results (180cd/m2 and perfect colour accuracy + expected blackpoint value for an IPS screen).

If I encounter any issues then I'll be raising them with Hazro as usual and discussing further options even if it means waiting for the next revision I'm happy to keep hold of this one but only if the results are worse than before as they were virtually perfect before with the exception of the snow and vertical banding.

All good it seems, just need my screen back!

Well, my screen didn't get delivered back today as FedEx held it at one of their hubs overnight (not Hazro's fault).

Can someone who had/has the green snow confirm if the shielding alone reduced the green snow any? Mine's was fairly minimal and infrequent so i'm hopefull that it may be fixed wiythout the need for Powerstrip or by changing DVI ports.

Never thought about asking about XP sorry, I only deal with Vista now!

My main OS is vista 64 but I have to dual boot as there are no proper drivers fro my video capture hardware in V64.
Just wondering if DDC/Ci works in XP then its just a bug for Vista.

Anyway BRB

Just had a quick check in coloreyes in XP, this V2.0 firmware is the same as the old. You just get a DDC initialization failed error.
Oh well

To those asking, it was Lutfur who helped me out, I wouldn't mind leaving him some feedback but have no idea where to go.

He said that changing DVI port fixed the green snow on a lot of monitors and that the problem is virtually non-existant with GeForce cards, other solutions include reducing the refresh rate by a minuscule amount (to say 59.8Hz down from 60Hz) with powerstrip (but this wouldn't work for the PS3).

After some playing with my screen since I've got it home, I think that the left hand side of my back light is noticably brighter than the right.

I noticed it at work yesterday, but my desk faces a window there so I didn't think much of it. The lighting is much better at home (i.e. more controlled) and I can notice the back light difference more :/

Someone mentioned the back light reduction is done through changing power levels, are different parts power separately?

Well I might be being a bit anal :/

I can notice the yellow smug a bit more, probably just noticing the difference between the parts with smudge and without.

Maybe you can add uniform back light to the list of checks you do on yours mrk?

So I still really want one of these screens, it's so frustrating waiting for these issues to be fixed while I sit here with a 5 year old 17" panel! Is anyone here 'lucky' enough to be using the screen with a ati 4850/4870? I was planning to buy one of these as an upgrade at the same time. If I can fix the snow issue with powerstip for the short term, I don't really mind I suppose if everything else is spot on.

Ditto :D

Does anyone know if the 30" has any of the 'anomalies' associated with the 24/26" versions?

There's not been one mention of it so far!

I'm surprised there seems to be so little interest or feedback regarding the 30" Hazro, it's almost as if there's a conspiracy of silence regarding this model. :D

Surely someone here must have some direct experience with it - maybe given all the problems with the smaller Hazros, people are reluctant to shell out twice the price for the 30" model, but I can see they must be selling (albeit slowly), as OcUK's stock levels have gone down.

I would imagine there would be less issues with this model, as I gather it uses exactly the same panel as the Dell 3007WFP-HC, which is well and truly tried-and-tested in the field by now. Still, I guess there remains the possibility of firmware bugs, green snow due to inadequate internal shielding or whatever.

Any input gratefully received. :)

I guess no news is good news in this case....most people come to forums to raise problems and see if anyone else is experiencing them/see how the problem will be fixed with strength in numbers etc...

Fewer numbers of people will come on specifically to make a positive "all is great" comment.

Remember the 30" version is an S-IPS panel which is a much more tried and tested technology than H-IPS on the other screens...
