Hiper vs Enermax/Coraqi

You post that image.. yeah well all the PSU crap is nonsense.

At one time everyone Raved about hipers and they were the best around, now the tables have turned and you instantly thing BAD replace it with something else. Only the 580W models were bad. I have built what 4 systems with Hiper PSU's and have yet to see a problem with any of them.

The same actually happened with the X-Pro PSU's I noticed. They were good and people no longer reccomend them.

I wonder how long it will be until everyone says Corsair..BOOM get an Enermax...

So you think exploding PSU's is acceptable then? Great, so one company creates a load of units and they create a disproportionate amount of failures and that is somehow acceptable. If I built a load of boats and more than a few of them sunk, I doubt I'd have many happy people returning their custom. No-one cares if Hiper's other PSU's are better, they screwed up big-time, and if they lose business over it, well good. What's the point of making power supplies that blow up, I mean, why bother if they clearly don't do what they're supposed to and a sizeable amount of customers are affected.

Some people on this forum have had Corsair PSU's go bang before...

I only bought the Enermax because the tests and reviews that I looked at showed that they were efficient, quiet and stable which is exactly what happened when I bought the Hiper.

I firmly accept that, one day, the Enermax might fail and I will probably go out and buy something that has the right reputation. There's no brand allegiance, I just want the best product for my money.

You pays your money............you takes your choice.

The older type-r's were fine, only a few of those blew, its the new ones that have been going, I paid 70 quid for my hiper type-r 580w a couple years back from PC World and even though it was way more than I could have got it online the PSU served me well and I sold it on this very forum to someone else, think I sold it for around 40 quid with a 19" widescreen monitor for 60.

I cant beleive you just said that...

This is a 2007 review, which is after hiper changed the parts. You notice it totaly conflicts with the earlyer 2006 reviews who loved the hipers till they changed all the parts. Im still looking for the 580w review where they stated it was terrible.

Unfortunately, the Hiper Type-R units died at the end of Test #3

review said:
The Hiper Type-R 480w build looked like it was indicating a 350w unit and the load testing certainly seemed to support that interpretation as the unit was unable to run above 348w. Arguably, we could say that this PSU would be much better rated at 300w. As such this unit really was a failure and it tied the Coolmax CR-405 for the largest amplitude change we have seen to date in the Transient Test. The unit did do a better job than the Coolmax at staying cool which could be due to the "perforated with #7 shot" housing it has or to its slightly better efficiency values. In the end though this unit simply is not a 480w unit and where that number was pulled from is anyones guess as it isn't supportable here today.

How about you read what ive been saying, which is why they kept dieing, which is why people all of a sudden hated them, which is why they now are unstable, which is why no one will buy them any more.

And no im not correcting the terrible grammer there because i cant be bothered because im fed up of having to tell people over and over again about why hipers were once really good and then all of a sudden went pop.

Dont try and discredit everything when you clearly dont know what happened.

I bought min in 2005, infact it may of been 2004

I dont know why you cant accept some people had good experiences with the Hiper Type-R 580W and that they never all failed

Why you are having to tell people over and over again? I know they have been failing and I havent needed you to tell me anything, I entered this thread and I also tried to say why they put the 580W label on and also that they all dont die and everyone wont stop buying them they'll always have customers.

I'm fed up of you trying to say that no one will every buy hipers ever again and that they all die eventually as thats BS. And go find one of the bad reviews of the Type-R 580W, I can see that says 480W on and I havent even got my glasses on..

Hiper Type-R 480w

"What does a company get when they take a long-in-the-tooth design built be a decent OEM, combine it with poor component selection, and then inflate the rating by a good 180 watts? It gets the Hiper Type-R 480w. The Type-R isn't really a bad power supply for a 300w unit other than its questionable capacitor selection but as a 480w unit it is a miserable failure as seen in the load testing and DC output quality. The unit posted decent, for this roundup, efficiency values and had decent voltage regulation but it failed at any load greater than 348w; that isn't good for a supposed 480w unit. Beyond that at 348w the unit was outputting such horribly dirty DC output that any component downstream of it would likely be silently damaged overtime if the system was stable. It really it is hard to say whether or not this unit was the worst in the roundup but if it wasn't it was very close. At $50 ($49.99 currently) the Hiper Type-R 480w is one of the poorest "values" we have seen to date".

Errrr, wtf. The PSU demonstrates a case of false advertising. End of.

Heres some moer for you if you still convinced that hiper didn't pull a fast one or that they were good psu's:

Back in the early days when hiper 480w was good psu

The Hiper designers have really done well here. Type-R is close to a top placement, and with due right.

There are very few lowbudget, or even mid, PSUs that can perform like this at maximum power output. Now the Type-R isn't intended to be a budget unit, but with its pricetag it is in the range where it could be called budget, but it performs like the best on the market.

To me that is a big con to have changed the parts this badly.

Have you been ignoring what ive beensaying? ive been sayingi ts a con because its faulse advertising. Because people run pcs that require moer then this psu can handle, which is why thinsg go pop.

Do you not understand that its the false advertising and the fact taht they traded all the top quality parts for bodge job cheap parts that they because so unstable and posed risked to your pc parts?

False advertising + terrible parts -> Bang

I'm agreeing with you. It's worse than false advertising actually, because the unit has supposedly been built to supply 480W yet can only produce 300W. So by that logic, if Hiper were to produce a 300W unit then that could only supplt 120W. Its awful because it shouldn't even be listed as a 300W unit, in fact, it shouldn't be sold to the public at all.

Sorry i totaly missread what you were saying. I thought you were tellign me i was wrong. Which was making me quite irritated as you were clearly incompetent if that was the case :p haha.

No, I was just saying that Hiper are guilty of false advertising and the like. I'm going to buy a shotgun, take my Hiper out for a walk behind the shed and blow it's ******* capacitors out. Hateful, hateful piece of junk.

Yeah, I've been looking to get rid of this Hiper '3S350' PSU for a while now...

It makes a strange noise (not fan related) which really bugs me, and reviews say it only delivers 250W if you're lucky... Which is odd as it states 'peak load' as 400W!

Thankfully I haven't heard of any failures of this PSU, but I ordered an OCZ StealthXStream 500W yesterday just to be on the safe side (also it was £35.99+VAT at the time so I jumped at it).

its a shame about them actually, i had one when they were put up on ocuk pretty much. never skipped a beaqt, still going today actually. i think the biggest problem was that nothing else came from them for a long time.

I wonder how long it will be until everyone says Corsair..BOOM get an Enermax...
that wont happen as long as the stick with seasonic psu's. im not so pleased withthe build quality of the vx series. time will tell with those.

oh, and guess what the original 580's were based on? you know, the ones that didnt blow up? andyson's, like the M series....

What were they based on? I must have had one of the decent ones because mine sure as hell did not blow up.

I jsut reasd a 550vx vs the 520hx or what ever they are called. Both do the same and are equally good btw james. Linky is

yep, they should be about the same for all intents. the key difference for me is that jonnyguru found a few things that could have been done better on the vx. lloose components were found on both the 450 and 550w which for me shouldnt happen, not when your spending £60 on a psu:) i expect my power supply to be built as well as it runs so i would always choose a HX over a VX. having said that, id still recommend the VX over virtually anything else.

they were designed and built by a company called Andyson, who typically make top end server psus:)

Nice I knew Hiper made some good PSU's.

Aww well im nto worried about that, i got the 600w seasonic coming. I should have got the 700w just for the extra 6 quid really now i think of it. 6 quid is nothing and it would mean no matter what i want to upgrade to, wether it be 2 intensive sli cards id still be able too. O well.
