Homeworld & Homeworld 2 HD remakes in the works

Want this game!
I absolutely loved, Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.
So I'm guess I'll enjoy this, even if i've not played homeworld before

This remaster is the first I've heard of the game.
And the first thing I did, was try and compare to Sins.
I will most likely pick this up.

So anyone found any cheats yet to stop those bloody asteroids in Diamond Shoals? Honestly I did the mission previously so successfully that restarting that just to destroy my army before starting said mission would be utter stupidity.
I destroy the bloody things, they turn into 2.. destroy those, they become yellow, and still do the same amount of damage as a massive one to the mothership.. Frigates are awesome against them, they just don't actually stop them.
Mission impossible anyone?

Shoot the largest ones. Put a crap load of repair frigs or covs on ur ms and frigs etc and u should be OK. Don't shoot ones that won't hit the ms like ones that should just pass by. Otherwise ull cause too many small ones.

I mentioned this before. The thing I've realised with this game in comparison to the original is the fact that strike craft, scouts, interceptors, etc are nearly useless. Theres loadsa post on the steam forum complaining about this, so to get through Diamond shoals, you need to use capital ships to destroy the asteroids and have a at least 2-3 support frigates with a about 6 support corvettes healing the mother ship. Also Assault frigates are a lot better than they were, so use multi gun vettes with assault frigs, instead of strike craft and you're good to go. Thats what I've found anyway, the ship balance between the original HW1 and this version is different due to the fact they've used the HW2 engine.

Started HW2 (as it was my favourite) only third mission in but really enjoying it again. Really takes me back and everything looks lovely...swoon.

Now hurry up and deliver my collectors edition box so I can have my little mothership.

Well, it swallowed up 6 hours of my day yesterday. Fantastic remake! Yes the asteroid level got a bit annoying but a combo of defenders, ion cannon frigates and two support vessels healing my mothership got me there in the end. At the research station mission at the moment :D

Any one have any idea whats causing this , runing at 4452x998 over three screens looks like im in a sort of sphere . I get the full screen on the first level after the hyperspace i get this ?

I really hate to say this, but I reckon that this game needs to be fixed. Theres quite a few glaringly obvious facets to this game that need attention.

1. Formations are broken. At the first sign of combat strike craft will break formation and do their own thing.

Agreed. I miss tons of interceptors in claw formation taking on capital ships. Currently formation goes out the window immediately upon entering battle.

Another thing I've noticed is that the attacks from interceptors is woefully inaccurate to the point of being almost ineffective.

2. Launch menu needs looking at and being modded to emulate the original.

Meh, why?

3. Support frigate "heal" action needs to be simpler (hit "z" then select ship to be healed)

Yep, absolutely. Heal/salvage should simply be action button and drag box (although a post above suggests salvage can be done like that using 'u'. Not tried yet but hope so!)

4. When box clicking the entire fleet, a list of all ships appear in the top r/h corner of the screen and any particular group can be selected from that list (like the original and Cataclysm), not that useless box with a pictorial representation of ships that are virtually indecipherable.

100% yes

5. Allow the player to select/ build the fleet that they want, don't limit cap certain ships to a low figure, ie: 14 salvage corvettes, most people want loads of 'em for capture purposes, 14 is about as much use later on in the game as a third armpit.

Again, yes. No reason to have any constraints on anything really. If the RU's allow for it, build what you want!!

All the above items listed are also being moaned about on the steam forums, and a lot of people are really annoyed with these issues. I get the impression that the guys at Gearbox thought it might be a good idea to muck about with the game and do a bit re-balancing, but I personally, and a good few others, don't agree.
Opinions?

However, it's quite obvious that Gearbox have poured a great deal of care and attention into this legitimately titled 'Remaster'. No reason to think they'll abandon it any time soon, and despite my total lack of programing knowledge it seems that the bugs/teething issues we have all come to expect from games these days, are simple fixes.

I'm optimistic they will all be addressed over the coming weeks.
I've not tried any of the MP yet, but if it seems the campaign needs some polish I'm happy to leave it for now, wait for the fixes and get stuck into some MP.

Am I the only one who didn't mind the launch trailer? :P

Anyone know where to get it a bit cheaper (non VPN activation) than steam? didn't get paid in time for pre-order :(

The game plays a lot smoother compared to the origionals (with the way ships and projectiles move etc). The HW1 campaign also seems harder than I remember. Not tried HW2 yet :)

Theres a few bugs that were not there before though. Mainly with the campaign. I have had to restart a mission because the objectives just vanished after re-loading a save and I couldnt complete it :O

If you have never played Homeworld before then it's definately worth buying, you get a lot for your money. If you played it to death back in the day (like me), probably wait until the price drops a bit.

This game is great, but with all the bugs and bits to iron out its effectively a Beta.
I'm happy to have it, happy to have paid for what is effectively a beta, and I'm pleased so much effort has gone in to this, but I do expect, rather than simply hope, that these bugs are sorted out.
