Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

Yeah same here, this game actually feels like a PC game on console! And I've never said that before. I just love it. I don't think the game is too complicated or too simplified, for me its all just right.

I know what you mean, and I think its mostly down to the amazing visuals, which are something only a PC could do... until now. The game is rich, insanely detailed, and has almost flawless IQ with little compromise.

I must admit I felt overwhelmed by some of the game-play structure at first... there seemed to be a lot to learn, and I felt 'chucked-in' ...but, once it clicks, its a true joy.

Where do you see your xp bar in this game? And how do you see how much xp you currently have? And how do you earn perk points to spend on the talent tree? Do you only get those when you level up?
The XP bar is top right, the blue bar. You can XP from monster kills, completing mission/side mission objectives and I believe clearing out camps. Each level up should give you a point to spend in the tree. I'm Lv13 so far and really hooked. Just killed 2x Sawtooths that were tormenting two npc clowns. They're tough to crack!

Thats great, cheers thanks. I think I'm level 7 at the moment.

What happens when you can ride a mount? Does it stay with you or does it run off once you get off it?

And can we change the difficulty when your already part way through the game? I'm thinking of switch from Hard to Very Hard.

Anyone else finding combat a bit easy? Granted, I'm practically at the start of the game but so far all I have to do is hide in the grass, chuck some rocks to attract my prey and R1 it to death. The rest of the herd runs away, I sneak closer, rinse and repeat. Those machines I'm not high enough to stab to death, I simply snare in my traps and dive around firing arrows until they're down.

I almost feel like I'm betraying myself here, having looked forward to the game this much and reading some glowing reviews all round, but I'm very slowly starting to agree with the Eurogamer review on this.

But like I said, I'm practically at the start of the game with many hours to go, hopefully I'll get hooked like a did on Witcher, TLOU and Uncharted.

If you're at the early point in the map where you're hunting in relative safety with Watchers and Striders then yes they're quite simplistic in their nature. It's when you go beyond the gates of that starting point when things get a tad more complicated. I'm not really using traps all that much so Sawtooths give me quite a headache.

Got this game on release day but my disc is faulty. Now waiting on Amazon shipping me a replacement sometime next week :( Goddamn it.

Those worrying about difficulty shouldn't worry, I'm just under level 21 now and 15hrs in. If you run into some fights you just ain't getting out. Of course you could just over level everything. I just walked into 4 Sawtooths for instance.

The demon was a beast with its controlled striders. It was rapid and whipping that tail at you in between firing.

I kept losing a mammoth chunk of health from one strike.

It's a visually stunning game but let's not pretend it's something it isn't.

Well, whatever :p ... I'm already far more engrosed in this than TLOU or U4, but that is mainly because I'm a open world fan, but I also like the setting and charaters far more... Aloy is a superstar :o

However, the main thing here is the gameplay, and there is something truly joyous about the way you interact with this that feels so natural, and so very-very good; and being a 'game' rather than an interactive story, that is more important. So, no pretending... this is by far the better game, for me anyway.

I totally understand this, there are many better games than Uncharted and TLOU but you won't find any as well written or with such developed characters however.

To pretend this is the holy grail of gaming does amount to hyperbole but if you're enjoying it that much it must be doing something right. Enjoy!

Got it some playtime after work.

Lots of side quests I see. Already did one to feed the old woman outcast, find a guys daughter and recover his late wifes spear and helped a woman find her possibly crazy brother. And I just took down the Sawtooth. Not too difficult of a fight, the Tripcaster made it easier.

I've also done enough collecting to upgrade a few of my holding capacities, like getting a bigger arrow quiver. I can see this game is going to take a while to finish :)

I don't think its the best game ever or anything but it is really enjoyable and fun. That's all I need from a game, having decent graphics/story is the cherry on top.

First game in a while where I couldn't wait to get back on it.

Loved the bit at the beginning where Aloy turns from a little girl into a woman warrior. Couldn't wait to kick ass.
