Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

The story has got me completely hooked. I've just finished the Embrace starting area and even though I don't want to stop, I have done so.

The only thing that has me totally confused so far is the modifications. There is no indication as to what mods fit what nor entirely what they do, e.g. what does +6% fire on the bow do? Does it mean 6% more fire damage when you use fire arrows? Why is there a freeze option when the bow doesn't have freeze ammo?

I love Mack's reviews but he does sometimes remind me of that fast talking reviewer whose name eludes me at this point - he became boring too with the bashing for new 'cool' games. The 'it's cool to bash a new game' becomes too common and it's clear that he has a thing against consoles. Some of his observations early on in the review are quite poor - enemy pathing for instance, is required in order to maximise the use of traps etc because lets face it - good luck memorising a Sawtooth's pathing whilst in a densely packed forest with thick grass.

That's why he's not a good critic. Rants about the pathing thing ringing his bell without any consideration of the design implications. Good critics have an understanding of game design concepts. His videos aren't about good criticism though, they're about his bell-ringing gimmick and moaning. Fair enough if you like that. Wouldn't surprise me if he'd made a video declaring Raiders Of The Lost Ark a brilliant game.

Clearly the game getting good reviews is not SCANDALOUS!!!111! because most people playing agree it is an excellent game.

FWIW I haven't played the game, but you don't need to to know that most of what the guy was whinging about was obviously false

Came off at level 23 last night, unless there's some big surprise to come I feel I can now explore the whole map if I feel the need.

I've started hunting small aminals to craft storage items, as full storage has become a issue for me (So yeah stock up on boar skin etc as you go guys)

Ive been side questing loads, main story mission is still level 12.

I haven't played it yet either but the instant the tool started complaining about being able to hide in grass, which doesn't completely obscure your character model, I knew it was going to be one of 'those' reviews.

Looks like the Development team have moved on leaps and bounds from Killzone. This is 100% on my 'to buy' list.

I was feeling a little jaded from gaming but a fresh IP was just what I needed. Great story and game play so far.

Brilliant game and a goty contender for me. Been a looooong time since I enjoyed a game as much

The more I play the game, the more I agree with some sentiments that this isn't anything new, but that's not the point. A new game doesn't have to bring something new to the table, what it does bring is a good story, and that's what I wanted. I am being drawn into it.

I managed to get stuck in the scenery last night after I'd near enough cleared a bandit hideout, resulting in me having to restart the whole thing  I saw a tweet from somebody who'd got stuck in scenery as well. Hope this gets fixed.

I've noticed a few little bugs, nothing game breaking like that though. I find target practice at bandit camps fun, but I'd likely be annoyed also.
