Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

Made it to Meridian finally and had an amazing journey on the long slog there. There are some great moments getting there that's for sure!

Barely a few hours in but this seems great. Looks good and runs surprisingly well on the ps4. The reviews mentioning the mix of witcher, far cry primal, tomb raider etc seems spot on, but the game seems better for it. Only gripe so far seems to be the auto lock on in close combat, but that might be as I'm coming from dark souls 2 where nothing really comes close combat wise.

Yeah, back, and sides. Mine sits out in the open, and with a couple of young boys leaping around like monkeys, our living rooms is always full of dust {it disgusts me :o}... so a few squirts of air always blasts something out.

Dust fibers coming up from the friction on the carpets. Look at the fibers floating about on a sunny day.

Got my copy the other day, not played it much, I'm struggling to get past the 30fps limit though :( PC gaming definitely spoilt me over the years.

Auto lock?

Auto lock?

It's not a lock as such. If you r2 near an enemy machine, but aren't facing quite the right way, you just seem to tether to the enemy machine and get a good hit in. It's only a minor point but given the feedback about witcher 3 combat (this seems similar close quarters) I'm surprised it's there. The combat at distance via bows seems much better. You can be fairly accurate and still miss the critical spots.

On an un related point, all games should follow the approach this has to cut scenes. Both pause and skip available.

Cannot say I've noticed this? Are you on very hard difficulty as it says that stuff is disabled.

No, normal. I've probably only noticed it due to playing dark souls 2 last like I say. It seems less apparent with r1, but that's probably due to the speed. Maybe it's just the animation.

Ho-lee mackerel!

Just been into the sigma cauldron and had an epic fight with some beastie whose name I've forgotten. I've not felt this sense of wonder since entering the Citadel in Half Life 2. Brilliant stuff. And I'm starting to learn the tactics you need to employ with fighting these creatures.

Someone mentioned you can get a fast travel pack with unlimited uses. Any clues as to where I get it?
On your way to Meridian, you will come across some checkpoints that have merchants. They will have it as well as Meridian merchants. You'll need a part of a Fox though (skin?) so be sure you've been hunting the buggers.

This is the best game I have played in a long time and the graphics are sublime, the story is also very compelling.

It's like a perfect blend of Assassin's Creed, Far Cry & Skyrim, they seem to have taken all of the best parts and blended them together.

Really wishing I went for the big box edition that had the statue for £107. Now they want £170.

Wow. Hardly knew anything about this but as had long weekend thought 'why not?'

Loving it, and glad I had no expectations.

The end of that survivor challenge :(

I'm totally sucked up in the game world.

Not selling this one on. Could be up there with tlou for me. Hope it stays as good /gets better.

I don't have much hope for side quests. Got to my first one once it opened up a bit and it was literally ripped right out of the witcher.

Use Aluminiums witcher sense to follow a path of footprints, examine the area, follow another path with batmans detective mode until you eventually find the first NPC to have the worst voice acting so far :D (it's been great so far bar the lip syncing)

well im about level 21 now and im on my way to meridin or how ever you spell it lol
and i just bumped in to some massive mechanical bird that chases you i **** myself lol if it wasnt for the fact i was on the back of a bullhorn thingy i wouldnt have made it then i ended up running into a lightning dino and well my story ended there with me dieing so easily lol

this game is epic :)

the graphics on this game are some of the best i have ever seen, its right up there with pc imho and i thought i would never say that about a console game heh :)
night time with fog and that bird chasing me was breathtaking.

GUYS: you really need to play this game with a tv that has HDR in standard mode it looks no where near as nice or rich.... and if you have OLED like me even better :)
