Horizon: Zero Dawn [PS4]

Has anyone tried the hunting grounds yet? I managed to scrape Blazing Suns at all of the Base game grounds, but this is something else!

I've had one go at the first two trails and just missed the middle reward on both. It almost seems impossible to me to be able to do them in time. Are you Ultra Hard NG+ or something else?

Got to be honest I'm playing it on hard which is a step up from the main game on normal.

As an old pc gamer this was my first console game that I played through since forever. My thumbs just don't coordinate like a true consoler!

The game needs to be played though so I'm trying!

I'm hoping that getting some upgraded weapons will help with at least one trial but I'm not sure.

I'm only playing on normal, so I guess I may be at an advantage over some. The extra trial I beat first time.
As for the three, they are proving more difficult - such a short amount of time to get through so many!
The trials are the only thing stopping me from 100% on FW.

Finished the main campaign last night, with a few side quests remaining.

The final level is a slog and a half and goes on for a good while, I was getting fatigued fast. This resulted in me getting my rear end absolutely handed to me by the final boss. If like me you're rusty with high speed fights, you'll struggle. I expended a ton of resources only to see that effort wasted by those structures that replenish machine health.

To be honest, I was tired and I rushed into battle without even analysing the body structure of said big bad. I could have taken it down easier but it all went wrong fast and the entire battle was about 10 minutes long I kid you not. In the end I ran seriously low on Blaze so be sure you're armed to the teeth with that and Chillwater before taking on the last mission.

Overall I haven't been too impressed by Frozen Wilds. Then again I'm not sure what I expected and I had done very little reading on the DLC prior to release. I was expecting more machines, and whilst we did get a few, we also ended up with the old ones and an irritating form of Corruption. The lands whilst beautiful to look at become tiring after a while because of the constant snow. Credit to GG though - they designed the new landscapes and its old world structures really well (Montana Recreations!).

The main campaign seemed rather boring, whilst the sidequests and random exploration was still enjoyable. It was great to see Aloy back again though. Despite my comments I thought the DLC was easily worth the price.

Currently playing this on hard, and I am really enjoying it. Lots of environmental variety and it is really interesting finding ways to take down every new robot I meet. Currently on level 25, so I am definitely not overpowered.

Have not tried entering the Frozen Wilds yet.

Hmm, this is why I always spend ages farming up wire, blaze, echo shell, juicy meats and the little flowers. Though I haven’t used any traps in a long, long time. I don’t have access to the mountain yet but I’ve to face the Banuk guy to a challenge.

Since the area on my map that is stil covered in cloud, will be the mountain as I’ve seen the hidden sealed entrance at the ridged stone wall when you scan with the focus. I’ve come to the conclusion since I have not came across it that
inside the mountain since it’ll be engulfed in lava must be the Fire Claw monster
as it is nowhere else to be seen.

I’ve still to finish off a few side missions before I face him. I’ve also got none of the new suits (currently in the suit the boy gave to Aloy from way back) and one of the new bows. Crazy that some of the new suits costs 7500 shards.

Also playing with no crosshair and trying to learn inverted Y axis.

I'm really struggling with the quest 'Under equipped'

after a few tries I finally killed the Longlegs and thought that all there was to it. Sadly not. Now I'm up against a Stalker and just getting my arse kicked. It's a level 10 quest and my character is level 15. I'm mainly a PC gamer and usually struggle aiming without auto aim and the aim assist in this game seems to do bugger all.

Any tips for defeating the stalker? I'm coming across a few machines that are weak to shock yet I have no shock ammo or weapons. Have I missed something along the way?

I don’t recognise that quest, Under equipped?

What bows have you got? Lots of tear blaster arrows on the top of the Stalker so it knocks off the invisibility module and its laser gun.

You also need sparkers for the shock weapons. I cannot remember what metal vessel does. There are lots of ways to takedown the Stalkers.

Explosion trip wires, shock wires, setup a plan of direction obviously as I like to draw them out then slingshot them. Depends really on your playstyle and surrounding how you want to approach them. Many ways.

As you’ve probably noticed if you’re getting destroyed, you better dodge fast as those Stalkers will try to swipe you or worse, get too close and they’ll tail whip you to your death.

The best advice I can give is to buy better weapons. More expensive weapons add different ammo from the Base set.

Also use mods for the weapons, eventually you can learn a skill which let's you swap mods and then you can mid up your weapon for a particular fight.

I am a pc gamer and found my thumbs doing odd things at critical times so died a lot but the game is worth it!

I think it's one of those random requests where you get approached by someone needing help. It's probably possible to play this game without ever unlocking this quest. I can't check right now but I think I have the Carja Hunter Bow with standard and flame arrows which do zero damage to a stalker. What's best way to 'draw them out?' I've also got the carja tripcaster but it's really hard to use against a stalker as I can't tag it to track its path.

I'm assuming I'll have to defeat the stalker with weapons I have? As not sure if I can return to camp to purchase better weapons when I have a quest active. If not then I'm going to really struggle by the sounds of things.

Oh now I remember. It was the quest you/I faced the Stalker for the first time.

Fire arrows don't do too much damage but the more you shoot the more the 'fire damage circle' (maybe not the technical term!) will fill. Once the circle is full the beast will be on fire and take more damage from impact arrows and damage over time.

Stalkers are easy. When you approach a Stalker area hide in some tall grass and look around for the glowing trip mines. Make sure you don't get close as they will set off a flare and alert any stalkers and other machines nearby. So when you see the trip mines lob a load of proximity grenades and surround the trip mine with the explosive trip line. Then just fire an arrow at the trip mine to set it off and watch the hilarity. ;)

That video has given me a few ideas (although I don't have as good of a bow and weapons) as have the tips posted here. Will give it another go tonight and see how I get on. Still don't think it shouldn't be a level 10 quest though.

They are deadly on Ultra Hard as there are usually 3 of them. However not as terrifying/panicky when you fight 2 Scorchers at once. Now that is intense! It was similar to that scene in Predator as they destroyed nearly all the trees. :D

Since you can be so far away from the Scorchers they can be on top of you within two seconds. It was a fun fight.

Another fun fight was facing the Frost Claw up extremely close as it gets up on its rear feet trying to take huge swipes at you or throwing those ice balls. Fun stuff. Loved getting up close to royally cheese it off getting it up walking like a man. Fun stuff.

Though the Stalkers can be fun, that deep, deep hum though. :D

I seem to have run out of Blue Gleam. :( Found them all over the map but don’t have enough for the remaining two suits. Only have the Stealth suit.

I've been off the ps4 for many months now but I picked it back up yesterday looking to finish this off.

I just realised that Sylens, the guy who stalks you through your focus, is Lt Daniels in tv show The Wire :D
