How many Focus ST owners on here

Did they ever come with auto wipers?
Yes it was an option on the ST, possibly part of a pack giving you auto wipers plus auto headlamps and maybe the dimming rear view mirror also.

Later on for the mk2.5 they added more features to standard specs and took them away as options - 2010.25MY ST3's for example came with privacy glass, climate control plus auto lamps/wipers/dimming mirror as standard spec.

With the ST you are looking at does that not have climate control built into the high spec nav/touch screen system it has?

Yep you outlined it nicely here for me last time :D

Lol I forgot about that post. Just to add, make sure it has both undertrays and also do give it a good run. Making sure it doesn’t smoke on or off boost as you’re accelerating and lifting off.

Turn left and right into streets just to hear for any sounds like knocking etc. Also usual checks open bonnet with key, doors, all electrics working, fan working. Definitely go in with your eyes open.

Yea thanks for pointing that out - somewhat annoying as I won't be able to swap the HU to something more modern :( I suspect I will have to look into a parrot as bluetooth streaming is a must

I will make sure I have a proper look at it, I'll also have my engineer brother with me for a bit of moral support

Thanks, my budget is ~£5500 so unlikely to be getting 2010 car for that

I also will have to check whether the cambelt has been done as that is usually due at 10 years/100k miles right?

Hello guys

How common is climate control on mk2 ST? There are barely find any with climate for sale, most have the manual blowers
I should be going to see this on saturday - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201806137468719?make=FORD&price-to=6000&model=FOCUS&radius=1500&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&postcode=le33lu&sort=price-desc&advertising-location=at_cars&aggregatedTrim=ST-3&page=1 . I realise this is probably playing over the odds but it has been for sale for a while so if I like it I should be able to get a decent whack off
What’s your budget? 6k on one with 106,000 seems like a bad buy imo. I doubt it’s had the £400 cam belt and water pump done otherwise it would have been mentioned. You could probably get a mint 2008 private example for 6.5k with about 60k on.
The facelifts are often overpriced and if your bothered about performance a 5 door facelift is a good few hundred kg heavier than a 3 door pre facelift

This thread being bumped is quite timely - I've been toying with the idea of either buying something relatively cheap and light to play with at the weekend (think MK3 MR2 turbo or FI'd mx-5 ) or spending a little bit of money on the ST next year.

When I think of the practicalities of how much I would actually get to use a two seater car, space on the drive, keeping it good during winter and the mild annoyance of insurance/tax on three cars plus the fact I really like the Focus I am leaning slightly more towards doing something to the existing car.

The car feels like it's crying out for an lsd before even considering any sort of power modifications, but it could be something like lsd first, then intercooler, downpipe and a map. Probably not mountune but I would be happy enough with the car running an extra 30 or so bhp so not miles away from the mp275.

Would have no desire to ruin the car though so don't think I'd go with any updated engine mounts or mess with the stock suspension which imo is pretty good.

Most owners that have tweaked the car tend to be on American forums so not sure I overly valuetheir opinion vs a UK car and roads - anyone on here running either mountune or other upgrades and have an opinion?

I should say all of the above is complete pie in the sky at the moment and I may well decide not to waste a penny on either this car or another

I have a 2016 Focus ST3 with the Mountune 275 upgrade and I really like the car. But I still want more power. The MP275 package is good, it adds some nice induction noise but to be honest I thought it would feel faster than it does.. The Mountune 300 package is calling out to me. My friends Fiesta ST with Mountune MP215 package is just as quick as my car!

The car is definitely too quiet with the stock exhaust so you might find you want to get a catback exhaust. I am looking at getting a Milltek Sport non resonated exhaust soon.

I can't really complain about torque steer, it does pull to the right sometimes when you really accelerate but day to day I don't even notice it.

I love the car a lot but I wish I went for the Focus RS instead. It's louder, faster, grippier and I like the styling better. Hope this helps :)

It's interesting you say that about the power aspect, on my private runway I had a race with a MK3 in my MK2 and we were both even, I guess it's down to extra weight (not checked to confirm) which renders the power figures pretty much useless and makes them only useful as a headline selling figure.

For me the diff wouldn't be about fixing off the line / low gear torque steer in a straight line but more around trying to help it get the power down better/earlier on corner exit - it's something you adapt to and I guess hardly makes a big difference in every day driving but when deciding to drive "enthusiastically" it should in theory haev a decent impact

In terms of noise I agree it's too quiet but I don't know if i see the value in spending £8-900+ on an exhaust system to just make the thing sound like a louder 4 pot (which it will for obvious reasons), it doesn't have the character of a vtec engine so the only exhaust changes I think I would make would be to support extra power hence potential down pipe / sports cat.

Power is a difficult one in general - for me it's pointless if you can't get more of it to the road and there's obviously a bit of a limit with fwd anyway. The car feels about at its limit just now and tbh I'm pretty happy with what's on offer, but let's face it getting towards 300(ish)bhp - so long as it can be used tends to be the magic number where cars of this sort of size/weight just feel right

I'm off to see that ST tomorrow but won't be buying it for 6k... looking at the MOT history etc it needs too much work so if the seller doesn't budge by a significant amount then I won't be interested. Likely needs cambelt & water pump, rear discs and pads, rear tyres etc

If you have Facebook. Join the focus st buy/sell or owners page. Always people selling.

Well the report. These cars are ******* awesome even from the rear seat!
I didn't unfortunately get to drive it (I'm 19 so what did I expect) but my brother took it. The boost seemed to be normal, I was a little worried as there are a couple of aftermarket hoses and aftermarket exhaust on the car however the boost stayed as described by Vita earlier and it felt like ~225bhp. I didn't get to check the oil cap as I couldn't release the cap (engine was hot - annoying)
The seller wasn't budging from 6k and wouldn't include the cambelt in the price so onto the next one I guess

Just wait for a good private example to come up. Try and find one with the cam belt etc done to save yourself £400. If your planning on keeping longer than a year then look for one with less than 80k on. Was that a 5 door facelift you viewed? As I say if your bothered about performance then the pre facelift 2006-08 in 3 door is the lightest in weight. I’m not sure what Ford done with the facelift 08-11 but the 5 door is really heavy. It’s a good 100 or so kg heavier which is like having an adult male sat in the passenger seat at all times it really makes a difference to the feel of accelerating. Hence the reason there are not many 5 doors around.

Yeah 5 door 2008 facelift. I'm not too fussed about the weight to be honest as it was plenty quick enough for me right now
I'm ideally looking for a 5 door but not in a rush to buy (have until mid September).
I think the reason this one is priced relatively highly is the climate control and the sat nav which seem to be very rare options?

The mk2 MPS is the car to compare to.

Mine is running approx 310bhp and they come with an LSD as standard. The reason they are the one to use as a comparison is that the entire chassis, is pretty much the same as a mk2 focus ST. Well... Not all, but most. FoMoCo car.

Torque is a pain, LSD only does anything when corners are involved.

You can get the power down fine, you just need a decent mapper and good tyres

I have a mk3 estate (and very good tyres) but it's still a reasonable comparison - straight line grip isn't what I'm worrying (as per my previous post) about I'm capable of modulating my own right foot, but if I didn't get a significant mid to exit corner improvement I would be really quite disappointed
