Can anyone help me? I added some drives to take me to 4 x 2TB, which I crated a pool. I somehow deleted a volume (which was the 500gb drive I've got plugged in as the main drive I think). In doing so, I've deleted the system partition maybe? I don't know - but this is the end result; it thinks I've not enough storage to do an update. Everything else is fine, as in my drives mounted, working correctly...

I have a volume JBOD which is the 4 x 2TB drives running fine then a 5th drive which is 500GB and was the system partition.

Just ordered a Gen8 and some WD Red's, but got some questions.

Is there any recommended DSM package I should install or just the newest? also I remember reading before about HDD's not spinning down and WoL not working has this been fixed?

Is XPEnology working fully on the gen8? If so would tempt me to upgrade

Are you trying to update to 5.1 as it won't work as yet. Synology\XPEnology is installed on all drives but you have to have the USB plugged in.

I'm trying and failing to find a NAS that can boot straight into xbmc on the cheap.
There is the asustor but the price is just silly.

I haven't tried it yet. Don't forget to have a full backup just in case.

All good, no issues at all other than I was trying to flash the iso to my usb rather than the img file doh!!! then to top it off when I realised that when I reflashed it I chose the wrong removable device and flashed the img onto the 1tb hdd I had just backed up my critical files too................

But all is good

and I now have a DS3615xs

Got my fibre yesterday and my Gen8, really glad I went for it over a DS415Play, this can even transcode 720p hi10 though plex which kinda shocked me since it only has the celeron in it.

Wondering though if theres a way to expand beyond 4 3.5" drives?

People with the N54L have had 6 3.5 HDs working.

Just wanted to add that I have done both mine and went without a hitch. Well, if you exclude not expanding the DSM software which caused me a bit of consternation for a while. But I'm not used to a pc, so that's my excuse.

All setting retained apart from fixed ip address, which always gets defaulted to DHCP. But a minor irritation.

Hopefully they will leave it alone for a while now

Nope, not trying to update at all, just saw that after messing around and deleting a volume, it always pops up saying no space, when before it would try and get me to update. Usb is on the internal, never removed or ejected.

I feared I'd deleted a system folder or something by deleting a volume. If not, that's fine.

Seems to be serious issues with 5.1 in that volumes, apps and whatnot disappear 12-24 hours after installing the update.

guess I've got about 2½ hours to go then

*edit* I do have an issue now that I cant log into the sinology...... I can still access my files so am making a backup of the important ones now.

*edit 2* just read the xpenology forums thread and guess I'll be downgrading back to 5.0 very soon

Mine is still going after 24 hors. But there again I never upgraded like they tell you to.

I just flashed the usb and booted it up and installed the latest DS. 10/1 I will be back eating my words

haha! thats all I did too? I could still access the drives though just couldnt log into the nas itself. Back to 5.0 for now for me
