Huel: The Future of Food ..

one thing i'd like is to try an make a flapjack of it.

but dont want to throw off the balance.

need to find some non nutritional binding agent instead of syrup or butter.

btw does anyone else gety acid reflux after drinking these? i;ve started too. so now have a gaviscon chewable just before i drink it.

Only problem I've had was the terrible farts but that's gone now, which is lucky as my GF was ready to throw me out.

There is mention on the nutritional breakdown pages that there was an error with the amount of salt printed so I don't know if that means they've just corrected it and are now displaying the correct lower number or if they've actually reduced the salt.

Tempted to give this a try, especially for breakfast. I really struggle to get a good breakfast that I enjoy, and helps me with my macros. Trying to focus on my weight loss again, it sort of went out the window a bit recently :(

The bit about acid reflux after drinking is putting me off though. Anyone else experienced this?

Should be getting v1.2 through the door any moment now. I'll update in an hour or so about the taste.

I struggle with bothering to prepare anything for breakfast as well, so this should hopefully sort that out.

Mixing it and drinking it straight away tastes a little bit too earthy and powdery for me. Doable but not the nicest. Taste wise, it's ok. Not great but drinkable. Could be a little sweeter as it's a touch too bland for me, but I guess I could always add a spoon of Nesquik or something.

It's a lot better if you mix it, and leave it in the fridge for a few hours before drinking, as the ingredients (I'm guessing mainly just the oats) absorbs the water making the taste/texture better.

So for me, I'm going to be blending one serving each (500kcal) into 2 bottles at night, then have one in the morning, and the other whenever during the day. Then at least I know I can always just grab and drink if I'm pushed for time without having to prep it at all.

Is that the vanilla or unflavoured version?

Vanilla.

Actually it's sweet enough if you leave it to absorb the liquid first. I think it's more the earthy powdery texture which gives the bland impression if you drink it straight after mixing.

I might try it with Nesquik anyhow, once I get some.

I did a bit of comparative analysis just for my own interests and came up with this - it's just a snapshot and there are, of course, many other protein suppliers/mass gainers out there/meal replacements etc...

I've set the calories for 1000 cals as you can see, as that's generally what I have in a meal.

To compare, with my bulk buying of meat and so on, my meals come in (certainly lunch does) at around £3.75 a day for 1000 cals which is pretty cheap IMO.

However it does show that Huel and the like are reasonably good VfM in terms of calories per £.

That said, I prefer tucking in on food than drinking a shake - but if you use this as one of your meals a day to save money, well... it stacks up. If you top it up with lots of veg (which is cheap as chips!) getting more than your 5 a day is easy and very very affordable.

I'm sure you've all done the numbers yourselves, but I was curious just how good the value was. Clearly the VfM goes up the less calories you need for each meal.

Have you done any comparison based on the macro and vitamin/mineral breakdown? I only ask as Huel is sold as a total meal replacement and I believe the others are just to supplement diet? Granted i've only looked at a few of the others briefly but they don't seem to be nearly as comprehensive nutritionally as Huel.

I've tried Huel, missus used it for a while, it's good for a quick breakfast or if you've missed a meal but I could never replace my food with it.
