Hungarian Grand Prix 2015, Hungaroring - Race 10/19

Oh and very pleased to see both McLarens finish in the points. Track suited them but at least it does imply that the mechanical grip and aerodynamics are there, they're just down on power. If Honda can sort that out and use some performance tokens then they might actually finish in the points regularly. Spa won't be pretty for them though.

Yep they are now.focusing on performance and spending tokens on the engine for Spa. Progress is being made thats the main thing.

With all of the downbeat posts regarding the state of F1 we've had 2 thoroughly entertaining races back to back. What a rollercoaster behind Vettel.

A very eventful and enjoyable race.

Dire weekend for Hamilton: stuffed up the start, got reckless in response and stuffed his race up further then rebuilt right up to the safety car and threw a chance of a podium away with an over-enthusiastic move that cost Ricciardo dear. He was lucky to end up with sixth, frankly.

Rosberg has a bad start and then drove a pretty mediocre race. An utterly cowardly decision to stick the mediums on at the last stop cost him not only victory but probably a podium. On the correct tyres he should have breezed past Vettel and then built an easy lead over the Red Bull, instead he was slowly than Ricciardo and fell victim to an unfortunate racing incident.

It was lovely to see Ricciardo doing well but the mis-fortune of the contact with Hamilton put him on the back foot and he got reckless leading to the eventual racing incident with Rosberg.

Vettel drove a great race from a perfectly delivered start. True he probably wouldn't have won but for the mistakes of other drivers but he showed once again how good he is at putting it together when things do fall into his lap.

First time for a while that I've watched BBC's F1 coverage... It's bloody awful. I can cope with DC constantly correcting the other muppet, but he makes EJ sound professional. There is no need for the constant corrections.

You've got the live timing in front of you... its easy enough to glance at it to know what driver is where. Moron!

For Sky Crofty goes right through your skull. He even says stupid things even though he has 2 - 4 displays with all the action and Brundle is always correcting him.

At least Lewis was honest:

"I was all over the place. I don't have any words to explain what happened today. It was a really bad performance from myself."

"I pushed and never gave up but when I had two different choices I chose the wrong one very time."

Strange day for Mercedes. Totally dominant in qualifying but both drivers were not at the races today (ha).

Yeah good he relises he had a poor race and didn't sugar coat it. At least he still gained points on Rosberg, although funnily enough a 1-2 would have been better :p:D

Probably one of the best races in a while. A good one to end it on.

Nico is his own worst enemy. Should have put the options on and he never would have been in that position in the first place.

Hamilton had a bit of brain fade, not helped by the Merc seemingly being much much poorer in traffic.

Tough luck for Kimi, but whatever.

Pasta face - WTF. He needs to be removed.

Weird race, many experienced drivers who should know better behaving like muppets. Rosberg not to blame for the first lap incident at all because it was normal thing to happen for a first lap however he was unlucky to finish behind hamilton who deserved nothing. Double points for Mclaren, good for them, athough the circuit did flatter their lack of straight line speed.

After a miserably flat qualifying yesterday F1 came back to life today.

It was amateur hour after the safety car.

Scary failure for Hulkenberg, and it's just a relief the wing shattered under the car and disappeared, unlike Alonso's in Sepang in 2013 where it got stuck underneath and partly lifted the front. I assume there was some problem with the kerbs given the two failures on Friday and Raikkonen's camera coming off today - perhaps just frequency issues with the Force India and Ferrari, but it's something that needs looking at after two incidents that could have ended with much more serious consequences.

I thought it was a bit harsh to give Hamilton a drive through for the Ricciardo incident. It's rare to have an actual drive-through since the time penalties were introduced and I certainly didn't think it was serious enough to warrant a ~20 second penalty. A 5 or perhaps 10 second penalty added to his race time would have sufficed. Maldonado got a lesser penalty for overtaking under the safety car, which is a total no-no!

Speaking of the lovely Pastor... how much vodka did he have at breakfast? Was it 3 separate penalties in the end? 4? Hitting Perez, speeding in the pitlane and overtaking under the safety car (I think he overtook one of the Manor cars after they were released from the safety car - he was certainly lining one up). Have I missed one?

Rosberg's incident with Ricciardo was interesting, as personally I thought that was Rosberg's fault for cutting back in front of Ricciardo too early. It was just a misjudgement, but it cost both drivers. Given Hamilton was given a drive-through I felt Rosberg certainly deserved some smaller penalty. Both Ricciardo and Horner weren't apportioning blame though, with Horner saying it was 50/50 and obviously the stewards agreed.

Harsh on Rosberg - Hamilton's had an absolute mare all of his own making, yet Rosberg barely put a foot wrong all race and still ended up behind him.

I was irked by Hamilton's treatment of Bottas too. I think in every other instance that I saw (other than Maldonado locking up and hitting Perez) drivers were giving others space around the outside. Not Hamilton though. It's something he did an awful lot last season, and even when Rosberg was wheel-to-wheel with him at the height of their feud, Rosberg always gave him space and never forced him off track, whereas Hamilton did it numerous times. It's a nasty trait that I really don't like in a driver.

Top day for Ferrari. Even with Raikkonen's retirement, it was still an encouraging day as they showed they still have some pace to challenge in the right conditions, which has got to be encouraging for next season. Flawless drive from both of them really.

What have Mercedes done to mess up their start procedure so much? They can't be testing the routine for Spa onwards... well not in live racing conditions.

McLaren... well, it looked as though they had more straight-line speed than expected (they really didn't look that far behind in race conditions), and clearly had far more pace than they were able to show yesterday. Obviously the next couple of races will be the poorest of the season for them, but there must have been some encouragement today. Alonso got his payback for pushing his car back to the pits yesterday.

After a terribly sad week it was a great day for F1. Poignant moment before the race too.

It was a good day in terms of points but lets not get carried away, that engine is as likely to fail as it is to finish a race.

Why not be irked by Rosberg shoving Lewis off the track near the start and not giving him enough space then?

Just for the record i don't think there was anything wrong with either situation but you cant say that Hamilton doing it to Bottas "irks" you but Rosberg doing it to Hamilton doesnt.

Result is great, but in reality the same situation as Marrusia getting a point at Monaco, if enough cars have disasters even crap cars get points. Here Mclaren aren't as embarrassingly awful as Marussia and even more cars failed or ****** up. They really didn't make any significant step forward here which is apparent from their lap times, how far down they were before the safety car(on like the two guys who didn't have a problem before then) and their qualifying.

This is a stronger than usual track for them due to the layout and they qualified in 15th/16th. They made almost no step forward even at a track that should have minimised their problems. If the race hadn't have been insane they would have finished, generously, 12th at the highest, wouldn't have been surprised to see them only ahead of Sauber/Marussia.

Qualifying was a pretty fair reflection of real performance of the cars here and Mclaren haven't improved in performance. Reliability is the only place they've improved with Alonso finishing two races in a row :o
