HUNGARORING - BUDAPEST - HUNGARY Grand Prix 2009 - Race 10/17

It would be very similar. I imagine it would be cheaper for BMW to sale than just to pack up.

But anyway, there's more than enough cars for a 20+ grid without running 3 cars.
Course it would. To pack up BMW would have to pay a lot of salaries up and presumably compensate sponsors. By selling the team to someone else, even for little money, would be a lot cheaper.

Once again Ferrari have passed over their own reserve drivers.

Anyone care to guess how annoyed Badoer and Gene must be now?
Oh about as annoyed as Badoer was in 1999? ;)

In 1997 Badoer began his long spell as Ferrari's test driver, a role he continues to perform. He returned to racing for one season in 1999, with the Minardi team. In the July of that season, Ferrari's number one driver Michael Schumacher broke his leg in an accident at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. As Ferrari's test driver, Badoer expected to be promoted to the race seat in Schumacher's absence, but the team opted for Mika Salo instead, prompting criticism from former Ferrari driver Jean Alesi.

They test. Erog, they've never been in a race in their life and wouldn't know where to start.

Get someone back in with experience and this gives ferrari the best chance at turning theirpoints table around.

Well thats a shame. I really was hoping for Alonso to make a quick move to put pressure on Kimi.

Anyway, MS will have to do. I feel that he wont be in the same form he was in when he was near his peak, so wont put as much pressure on Kimi as Alonso would've.

Its great PR for Ferrari and I have no doubt that the viewer numbers will be very very high for the Spanish GP, due to MS's return.

PS. a lot of people have derided MS for avoiding racing head to head against Kimi. Well, for the rest of the season, that is exactly what he will be doing. And make no doubt: MS is not returning to make up the numbers - he will be trying to prove that he IS the daddy of F1. No way would a 7-time World Champ return to make up the numbers.

Holy crap, Schumi is back. Confirmed on breaking news on CNN just now, report on BBC News sport as well.

McLarren and Ferrari showing pace again? Button having to push hard to re-capture his early season momentum? Red Bull waiting in the wings? Tickle me excited for the next race! BM-Who?

There does seem to be a rather annoying trend that if you become an F1 team test or reserve driver, you wont ever become a full time team drivers...

De La Rosa
Davidson
Badoer
etc etc

I mean, look at all the proven talent that is sitting in testing roles, yet Red Bull put a complete novice in their spare seat? It baffles me somewhat.

And as for Schumi, he is taking a HUGE risk. If he comes back and is competivie, fine, but if he isnt... it will be unbelievably damaging to his career and reputation.

Wooooo :D

Awesome stuff. Look forward to seeing how he does. I'm confident that if he is fit he will be in the top 10 without much issue.

I don't think he will damage his career if he does badly, it's not like he has a huge long time to prepare along with a proper contract for a season. It's a spur of the moment decision as far as modern F1 contracts go.

Ok sure, what I meant was. Badoer and Gene, great. I mean, its not like 10 years since either was in an F1 starting line up.

5 years for Gene.

If you're going to spout crap - at least make it factually correct crap. ;)

Gene also has some rather good experience racing other things recently. Peugeot 908 to a win at Le Mans perhaps. Win at the Spa 1000km last year.

But you're obviously right - never races...
