HUNGARORING - BUDAPEST - HUNGARY Grand Prix 2009 - Race 10/17

What are the limits of the testing ban? Is he today allowed to take an old 2008 spec car to a track and pound round it for a couple of weeks get his fitness back? What counts as testing?

He is allowed to use any previous year car however he wishes as far as I know, only CURRENT year cars cannot be used

Wrong.

Alonso doesnt cherry pick team-mates, however, he does expect preferential treatment, when his team-mate is a newbie. Most World Champions would expect this treatment...even Senna (who would request that he be given the best equipment the team has, while his team-mate can goto hell).

Part of Alonso's deal with moving back to Renault was that they got rid of Kovalinen, as he didn't want a team mate who could potentially pose a threat. So, yes, he does cherry pick.

It still wasn't Alonso's decision for preferential treatment this spell, and this is the first time he's had it from the off.

And I guess a 2008 car could be hacked to generate similar levels of downforce and 2009 spec tyres could be used? Just thinking out loud... Whatever he does, I bet the next three weeks are going to be a lot of hard work!

it wouldnt feel like this years car though, i'd say hes better of waiting and getting used to how this years car feels rather than get used to last years car setup to be similar to this years.

no point getting used to a car if it wont feel the same as this years to drive.

the practice sessions for valencia should be more than enough if he gets the laps in

That's rubbish, there was no such deal from Alonso's camp and Kovalinen at that time was no threat and is still no threat. Alonso was always happy being out qualified by Trulli from time to time and Fissi was no pushover.
Theres an interview with Pat Symmonds at the end of 2007, saying it was the Renault engineers decison to put more resources into 1 car after seeing McLaren throw away both titles, so Kovalinen was informed (obviously they would focus on the double world champion's car) and wanted out.

Huge respect to Scumacher but I can't see him doing much, for one he has no title prospects and more importantly the Ferrari simply isn't as dominant as it was back when he won most of his titles.

Obviously you missed 2007 :p Alonso cherry picks team mates like MS did. Piquet has lasted as long as he has because he's crap. Alonso will often come out in support of a driver whose no threat.

For his part in the cheating mclaren fiasco and trying to blackmail the team I would never rate him as great as good as he is. A scum bag and the lowest driver I can ever remember.

A scum bag is a proven cheat like shumacher. And as a Mansell fan, I thought you'd be hardened to some ****ty goings on in F1. The Blackmailing incident was quite pathetic compared to the old days, almost laughable.

LOL. I really dont think that Alonso needed to worry about Heikki. I agree that Piquet is worse, but then Piquet is probably the worst driver currently in F1. Heikki isnt far off though.

Hamilton is the same though - he certainly didnt want a top line driver as his team-mate, so Heikki is/was ideal an ideal team-mate.

If I was a top line driver, I wouldnt want another as my team-mate as we would just be taking points away from eachother. To maximise points its safest to have a No.1 and No.2 driver. McLaren know this (after 2007) and RedBull may find this out, this year, if they lose the title to Button because their drivers are taking points off of eachother.

Think you missed my reference. Even champions can crash. ;)

And I was on about the loads of practice laps will be fine and how that's possibly tempted fate. :p

yea champions under pressure going all out , the odds are he wont need to do anything special to end up in a decent position that ferrari are happy with.

i doubt there expecting some kind of miracle from a crap car unless it rains, even the barely talented drivers manage to finish most races

I admit that the Ferrari car isnt a title winning one. However, it is far from crap. It finished 2nd in the last GP, on merit (ie. no one crashed out and the RedBulls and BrawnGP cars were beaten for pace).

Alonso. Ron wouldn't have owned up if he wasn't threatened with blackmail and Alonso was as close to the cheating as it gets, being in the email loop gaining information.

Gaining information and spying has been part of F1 for even longer than Ive been watching it. Alonso was just that, caught up in the loop.
Every driver on the grid today wants to know how the top teams are balancing their cars and wouldn't be afraid of asking. In the lower Formula's the drivers share or copy each other. Hamilton was the same in Karting until he got £100,000 per year to run his Kart then it went secretive as it became serious.
There is more to the incident that we know. So dont get the hump with Alonso.
