Intel Core Ultra 9 285k 'Arrow Lake' Discussion/News ("15th gen") on LGA-1851

Would these be Intel's Zen 1? Difference being AMD went from really bad gaming performance to ok gaming performance, so while still lacking it was much better, Intel have gone from very solid gaming performance to just ok, like Ryzen 5000 series ok by todays standard.

I’d say Zen1 was MTL. This should be Zen2. But they need to improve those out of the box latencies.

I'll test again in a few hours when my RAM arrives from OcUK.

Here is a crude example but it highlights the point but also brings up the performance in other areas

14th Gen - Base 5600

14th Gen 8200C36

As a rule of thump 8600 to 8800 is sub 50ns on 14th Gen

When do these get released, haven't they been on sale for 2 weeks already?

Clever strategy, get people to buy them long enough before reviews so they can't use the 14 day return policy

That would be good but its 14 days from the point of dispatch/arrival, so your point is moot.

MLID says arrow lake has terrible performance and it is buggy and lots of games crash with arrow lake cpus

This video was put up before the oc3d leak

What makes me laugh about this guy is he never learns, he does have people inside Intel feeding him what he wants to hear, with that he makes videos over hyping Intel's in two years from now product before having to climb down again closer to launch, and he hasn't just done this once, its over and over and over and over again.... Even now with this come down video he has one overhyping Griffin Cove.

Intel love to make a lot of bluster and noise about what they are doing many years from now, always on the cutting edge and shouting about it, trying to keep investors perpetually excited after constant disappointments, it will be better soon... This guy is a perfect tool.

I’ve been following this chat as I’m just about to do my first build. Been planning a long time and have all my components except motherboard, cpu and Gpu. Going Intel as that’s what I’m most familiar with and going to put an old Gpu from an old pre built until the 50 series gpu’s are launched then make a choice. Have pre ordered the MSI Carbon WiFi motherboard and ultra core 9 285k. Given it’s my first ever build wanted to make it something special and go completely overkill. Just after reading this chat should I be looking to cancel the motherboard and cpu pre ordered? Just looking for some advice.

Wait for reviews.

I still dunno what the point of 1080p ultra benchmarks are - either 1080p low to bench the CPU or higher res ultra to benchmark the GPU and/or show the significance of the CPU at the kind of resolutions and settings people will be playing at... I'd imagine most people aren't buying a 285K to pair up with a RTX4060...
You test ultra because higher settings put a higher load on the CPU, so if you want to know what CPU could give you the FPS you want at the settings you'd play at (and in single-player, that's by definition max settings or near) then you have to max out those settings (including RT). You only test low settings for competitive titles because you want the highest fps and nothing else (w/ exceptions depending on visual changes giving an advantage or not).

That's why if you want to examine CPU performance the #1 thing you change is resolution, and if you see people testing at 1080p low in such titles that's a dead giveaway that they're clueless when it comes to testing.

Get it cancelled (for now) we need to see real reviews. Make up your mind in a few weeks if any fixes / improvements come.

Nothing about a newer chip is any more familiar than another at the moment.

Wait for reviews of this & wait for the 9800X3D to also be reviewed.
