Intel Haswell Refresh Processors Codenamed Devil’s Canyon – Launching in Mid 2014 With Unlocked Desi

Didn't mean to open that can of worms again, sorry guys! I do have some playability issues in SOME games, not all and that is relative to my flatmate's 4670k.

I have someone to hand my 8350 machine on to for a donation towards my intel processor so won't be a total waste of money :) they are also desperate for a machine and will not be looking towards xfire in the future, unlike me.

The other reason is that I'm very tempted by a small form factor pc which, with the current mobo selection, i am unable to do with AM3+

Ideal if you have someone to sell it onto, the extra performance and much lower power on the 4770K etc use make it a worthy upgrade. If you buy into Z97 chipset you have added future upgrade as well.

Go for it.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::( I'm about to scream!!!!!!!!!!:eek::mad::mad:

I might not have any choice but get 4770k. It's either buy now or not at all. Can't wait until September. So 4770k work with z97 mobo's

Yeah 4770K works mate. Not long till we get some legit info on the launch date. You could just pick up a used 4770K until 4790K appears?

Putting my Z97 together atm. Impressed with the mobo and case for the money, The heatsinks aren't yellow like in pics, more like muted gold..

4770K + Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H

Let's hope nothing DOA :p

..and a 4770k/4790k with corresponding motherboard plus 1-2 290x card is not it I'm afraid. If you think that combination is best value vs performance, you are mad.

Yes, although GPU-wise, I'd argue it is Nvidia rather than AMD, but that's a different story. In pure raw GPU-power, it isn't a Haswell CPU-based system either, it is what can drive the most GPUs, which at present is a well clocked SB-E or Ivy-E Hexcore for high end tri and quad SLI setups.

I like the way you left of the rest of my comment to suit to your quote.. Sneaky sneaky.

Imho Z79 and 4770K / 4790K is a much better value VS performance setup than anything AMD have. AM3+ is dead at this point, no point buying into a dead socket.

You could always go 4670K or even an i3, whatever level you buy into Haswell at, makes way more sense than anything AMD at this point..

This old AMD argument is just boring at this point, it's old and dead. Time to move on. Intel is the way forward atm. Look to AMD in a couple of years. We all want them to come back strong.

Thanks :)

I guess I could get a 4770k & z97 mobo now then pick up a 4790k in September? At least I wouldn't need to buy a new mobo then. The thing is I have the money now and might not then. Last year money was tight in september....That's why I bought stuff in the summer.

Worth waiting a couple weeks and see if anything does happen around June 2nd..

Go for a decent priced used 4770K and it's not so bad then.

you get your board then boom? whats it like ? audio ect

think theres no way of adjusting vring voltage atm or correct software monitoring, but its being looked into

Yeah, built today bud. Project log is here - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=26336174#post26336174

The board is really good for the money. Audio is great, overclocking is easy. vring is adjustable, got to 4.4Ghz on 1.28v core and 1.15 vring no problem, needed 1.3v core for 4.5Ghz booted into Windows but unstable. Don't wanna push past that voltage tbh. Need time to get used to the mobo.

it might be current software monitoring isn't accurate atm,i remember someone mentioning it but no big deal

EDIT: the sapphire card is perfect colour match for that board, goes well

Yeah it should go pretty good with the mobo, hope it fits in there without having to take out SSD rack :p Supposed to be a very long card.

Pretty happy with the build, the case for £65 is a right bargain imho. The mobo as well, some good prices on the Z97 stuff.

Hopefully can just chuck a Broadwell CPU in there next year..

Devil's Canyon OC Competition at Computex 2014

For overclockers attending Computex 2014, Intel® is hosting the Intel® OC Challenge for Amateurs alongside a bigger overclocking competition. The Intel® OC Challenge for Amateurs features 8 overclockers competing on air cooling using the new Z97 motherboards and upcoming Haswell K-SKU series CPUs. The registration for this competition is open. All you need to do is submit an XTU result using either the Core i5 4670K or the Core i7 4770K to this competition page. From the selection of submissions we then select the 8 participants at random.

Does this mean it is launching in June?

Because of its stock clock, this is going to look pretty good in reviews.
I don't quite believe the 4.1GHZ rumour though.

Yeah will have pretty epic stock performance, wandering if the 4.1Ghz is the turbo boost? 4.1Ghz > 4.4Ghz seems to good to be true :p

If it is, Broadwell successor would have to be clocked high at launch to surpass Devil's Canyon.. 4.2Ghz > 4.5Ghz ?

I'm hoping it does? Why is Intel letting all the rumours run out of control? We'll know all at the beginning of Computex 2014. If it doesn't I'll get 4770k and live with it until broadwell is released. Happy that Broadwell will use z97:D

Yeah sounds like a plan. Think I'll stick with 4770K up until Broadwell as well. It does 4.4Ghz, which I only use for benching etc. Happy with stock speed for gaming / desktop use.

Broadwell 14nm will be a decent upgrade.

I guess you don't wanna buy yet just in case it does launch in June.. Be nice if Intel could drop some official conformation on 4790K for those waiting..

The past week has seen quite a number of leaks, at east where the Intel Processor department is concerned, and as the month draws to an end we have learned almost all there is to know about Intel’s new built-for-overclocking SKUs. Our colleagues over at Chinese VR Zone have sent us the final specifications of the Devil Canyon processors as well as the Pentium 20th Anniversary G3258 processor.

i agree i also heard battlefield 4 won't even run on dual core cpu's.

It runs fine with dual core, my boys are using Haswell Pentium dual core + Mantle and have no probs playing Battefield 4.

I think Watch Dogs doesn't work properly with dual core, but then that game doesn't work properly with anything :p

Motherboard Manufacturer’s May Allow Intel’s Devil’s Canyon CPU Support on Z87 Motherboards

Intel would announce their upcoming Devil’s Canyon processors at Computex 2014 which begins next week. Shipping in Q3 2014, the new Devil’s Canyon processors would include two new SKUs, the Core i7-4970K and Intel’s Core i5-4690K. The new processors would feature the 22nm Haswell microarchitecture and include enhanced packaging materials and design for better overclocking support.

Intel’s Devil’s Canyon Processors will Not be Supported on 8th Series Chipset, Pentium Anniversary Will Be

Read more: http://wccftech.com/intel-devils-canyon-not-supported-8-series-pentium-anniversary/#ixzz33OT0Jm5s

Devil’s Canyon and Intel Z97 compatibility is turning into quite the soap opera. We have just received photos from our colleagues at Hermitage Akihabara which confirm that Intel Devil’s Canyon will not supported on 8 Series Chipsets and Z87. Only the Pentium 20th Anniversary Unlocked Processors will work with both chipsets. That is, unless the motherboard manufacturers have something to say about it.
