***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

So guys, i've finally tweaked my cpu...

4800mhz_1.30V/cpu + 4600mhz_1.31v/cache (1.95V vccin under load)

Super stable, aida64 stability test 7hours.
occt:cpu_large data set = 1hour stable
occt:linpack = 1hour stable
Cinebench loop,xtu bench, aida64 benches, pc and 3d marks..etc..
All this with 70-85C max(delided cpu). No crashes/freezes whatsoever...

Now, the problem is 4900Mhz. Cant get it stable even with 1.4V. Thats 0.1V increase but only 100mhz gain..
Tried vccin 2.02 under load and didnt help.... Can run aida64 stability test for hours, can do XTU for hours too, can do cinebench loops, wprime 1024M etc... But in occt:cpu it crashes to bsod in 5 mins.

Any ideas ? What might help, or should i "idgaf" about occt lol ? Is aida64 nuff?

Same problem I had with my DC @ 49 core 49 cache bench 30min to 1 hr at best. Gaming no problems but just to much voltage needed, heat is the biggest problem with Haswell. Now have it running 48 / 48 at 1.265V and cache on auto system agent +0.010.

Have finally managed to get mine to 4.75Ghz/4.4Ghz cache but its taking 1.35v to do so :( think ive just got a dog of a chip

I'm getting a 4790K with my next pay day. Which motherboard should I go for? I've got my eye on a Asus Ranger purely because I've always had Asus motherboards.

I'll be getting another GTX 970 somewhere down the line too so the PCI-E lanes need to be able to manage them both.

Thanks diamondkid don't know how I missed that one. It never appeared in any if the z97 chipset review roundup articles I've read. Hmm gonna find some more user reviews for it. Not sure it's worth the extra £50 though.

Thanks Stulid. Am I right in saying there isn't much difference I'm the boards at the £120 to £130 price range?

Edit: what keyboard is that you get with the mobo?

That KB is worth £50! That's excellent value

Hmmmm something inside me still saying get the Asus Ranger. Will the Gigabyte Gaming 5 let me OC the 4790K to 4.5Ghz or above? I'll be using the Arctic Cooling i30 CPU cooler.

Hmm those coolers don't perform very well when the CPU is overclocked. Is 75+ Celcius safe for these chips? Out of thise coolers I think the Raijintek is the best.

Even cheaper and better board:

That was a mistake it was 66.3C under Delta Load.

When you say 'Get a free motherboard upgrade anytime up till, 3 years away' you just mean it has 3 year warranty right? This board is pretty much the same as the Gaming 7 apart from the extra years warranty.

Gigabyte are doing an offer at the moment. See below

The offer is available on three Intel Z97-based motherboards designated with a BK suffix. The trio include the £130 Z97X-UD3H-BK, the £175 Z97X-UD5H-BK and the £320 Z97X-Gaming G1-WiFi-BK. All are backed by a five-year warranty as standard, too.

Gigabyte enables users who register their Z97 Black Edition boards within four weeks of purchase to upgrade to newer BK motherboards when they become available. The offer is available up to three years post initial purchase.

For example, a Z97X-UD3H-BK can be upgraded to, say, the equivalent 10- or 11-series boards, assuming they're available within that three-year period. Those who want to upgrade to a better board can do so by paying the difference in the retail price between the two.

The upgraded board will be provided after the original is sent in to Gigabyte, meaning you may have some downtime between builds, though Gigabyte will offer a pre-swap service if the user agrees to pay a refundable fee into the firm's bank account.
