***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

Does that mean if I wanted to get an Haswell-E in the future I could upgrade to a new X99 Gigabyte board for free through them?

It an "equivalent priced" board, so say you have a £130 Z107 or something board released, you get a upgrade.

Or if you read the T+C,

If the original price of the replacement motherboard exceeds the original purchase price of the registered Black Edition 9 Series motherboard, GIGABYTE will invoice the price difference to the customer.

Still a cracking deal! can't see a thread in the Motherboard section for this I bet this would sway a lot of people into getting a Gigabyte mobo over other brands.

Nice one stulid thanks for all your help :) Now I need to figure out the best time for delivery so the Mrs doesn't see the kit.... or I could give her the Haribo to soften the blow :p

Finally managed to remedy my temperature woes that I've been having with the i7 since I bought it. I'm the guy who was hitting 100c at load on stock clocks. :(

Delidded and put liquid pro on the die and heat-spreader underside. I then added an H80i (set to exhaust) and just left the stock paste on to see how it went. small overclock to 4400Mhz and ran the usual gamut of torture test programs expecting the worst and instead found myself maxing at no higher than 67c. :)

A hell of a lot of work and expense just to get this chip under control but I'm glad I stuck with it. It was quite the learning process. Still making sure I buy a soldered chip next time. :p

if they offered a solder chip ;) ...

Anyway, they should just use some high quality paste instead of that TIM.. It would increase the cost literally by some £(which is NOTHING) but it would provide some extra great results..

Before I checkout can I ask:

1. I have a GTX 970 and a Soundblaster Z sound card. By putting the sound card in the 1x PCI-E slot will this cause the GTX 970 to run at 8X rather than 16X? The manual says:

'1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
* For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)
(The PCIEX16 and PCIEX8 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
* The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.

1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
* The PCIEX4 slot shares bandwidth with all PCI Express x1 slots. All PCI Express x1 slots will become unavailable when a PCIe x4 expansion card is installed.
* When installing a x4 or above card in the PCIEX4 slot, make sure to set PCIE Slot Configuration (PCH) in BIOS Setup to x4. (Refer to Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup,"
"Peripherals," for more information.)

3 x PCI Express x1 slots
(The PCIEX4 and PCI Express x1 slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard)

According to the bold red text I should be OK as long as I plug the sound card in the 1X slot

2. Do I need to buy thermal paste or does it come with the Raijintek EreBoss High Performance CPU Cooler?

If you use the 4X slot then all of the 1X slots are disabled.

If you use a 1X slot it will not affect the 16X slot and the other 16X slot (actually wired at 8X) that a 2nd gfx card would use.

The cooler will come with paste. Does the ereboss fit in your case? Its huge!

Awesome  This is part 1 of my upgrade plan. Part 2 is to get an 850W PSU and another GTX970 but that won't be until my birthday in March next year. Then part 3 is a nice 1440 resolution monitor :)
