***Intel i7 4790K Owners thread***

As long as you don't plan on moving the PC around much, go for the larger one for sure.

If you do happen to be moving the PC around, either get a smaller heatsink or remove it before moving the PC, to be on the safe side.

I use a k2 which is very similar to the D14, which should do a great job as theese are pretty hot cpu's.

Check google. (not sure if i can link other sites; can i? )

The difference is about 2-6C under load(D-14 better).

On haswell every little helps. Though theese big coolers can impact ram choice or in some cases pci/e slots.

Would i be right in saying going from a 4.6 2600k to one of these would be a sidegrade at most? Gaming performance seems literally insignificantly faster at best. Expected more than that 3 years after the 2600k. =/

Depends. I find my 2600k can bottleneck two 290X's at 1440p and above running 4.4Ghz.

This is the thing what's bugging me, my heart would love a 5820K but my brain is saying that it's not worth it.
I looked at some performance figures...

2600k 3.40ghz = 8,585
4790k 4.00ghz = 11,301
5820k 3.30ghz = 12,988

if we standardise these figures to 4.00ghz, we get...

2600k = 10,100
4790k = 11,301
5820k = 15,743

...and divide that by cores...

2600k = 2525
4790k = 2825 + 11.9% over 2600k
5820k = 2624 + 3.9% over 2600k

...there's virtually nothing in it, my upgrade itch is going to have to stay for a while. :(

So wait, the 3.3>3.6 Ghz 5820K beating the 4.0>4.4Ghz 4790K has put you off?

:eek::eek::confused:

Run that 5820K overclocked and it creams the 4790K. Isn't this website called Overclockers? Just checking !?

Cheers setter, what would you consider reasonable voltage? I'm very happy with 4.8 then if the norm would be considered 4.7 I'm running at 1.30v

Cheers.

Cheers setter, I have a 4.9 at 1.365 saved which I use for work. I managed to get this with hyperthreading off as my work is solely singlethreaded applications, and apparently they work better with hyperthreading off. Would this be acceptable for 24/7 use? Not sure if it makes a difference but I know 4.9 at 1.365 wouldn't be stable at all with hyperthreading enabled.

Cheers.

I'm looking at replacing my CPU and MB with a 4790k / Gigabyte bundle. My current cooler is a Corsair H60, does anyone have any experience using one of these or should I stick to the retail heatsink? Will I have any problems with it?

I'm not interested in overclocking at the moment :)

Stock heatsink is usually fine when you're not overclocking :)

I too am the proud owner of a 4790K upgraded from the i54670k Delid, i know not much of a upgrade but always wanted a I7 plus i have a H110 to cool it !
