INTEL RAPTOR LAKE NOW AVAILABLE TO PRE-ORDER !

Pairing it with the experimental A770. You would have to wait for reviews, it would likely help with the 4090/4K. Although, if money is no object then why not.
Good call, do keep us posted with your results on that mate. Been very intrigued with Intel's gpu's since they were announced despite them being a gen behind now, they seem pretty good value if you can get one close to MSRP.

I'm running a 3090 so it might help it stretch its legs that last little bit. No need for a 4090 as im on 1440p UW, the extra cpu power would help i think.

I'm expecting crashes and hair pulling, lol.

r to do a drop in upgrade from a 12700k to a 13900k for the extra oopmh on a Asus Z690 ITX Strix

No point in z790, IMHO, there is nothing one could really benefit from and probably next couple of gen is when PCI-5 will make sense. I think is more a dilemma when one compare rather than when you actually you start using a mobo in your system.

@deuse the "waiting" in tech is pointless, unless there is a feature you really want and or upgrade is pointless (iPhone 13 vs 14 as an example), if you are on pre Alder Lake it seems a massive upgrade here, then again it depends what you do with it, if you play heavy CPU games like MSFS or do productivity then fine as I do not see much more brought to the table by the platform.

@Jay85 ha ha same here, got a 3090 for 700 quid and will slap a waterblock on it, I bought it for Blender and VR as really there is no need for a 3090 even, let alone for that theft of the 4090 unless one does it as a job, as a prosumer the 3090 is superb already.

I already have a Z690 so hence the easy upgrade path. I had a quick look at what the potential gain is from a 12700k to a 13700k and there literally is nothing in gaming wise. However there maybe something to be gained going upto a 13900k for the extra mhz boost clocks.

A 3090 with a waterblock is the way to go, even in VR especially if you're only using something like a Quest 2 its more than enough. I've my 3090 since launch so about 2 years now and its been on water since, never goes over 50c and keeps all hotspot and memory temps in check. I can't ask for more and upgrading to a 4090 would be quite meaningless especially as i only game at 1440p ultrawide.

If the 14th gen users a new LGA.
Then I would be good for a few more CPUs.

What frequency you running 12700K at?? 13700k is a solid frequency boost even at stock...

I'm currently running it at 5ghz pcore but left the ecores at stock as it didn't really have any benefit for my use case.
It depends what the boost means in terms of fps performance say in 1% lows and minimums etc? I'm guessing you've tested it already? Do spill

I doubt one has honestly need to do interim update on same socket, by the time an upgrade is needed it is time to change MB too...unless one for some reason need small incremental CPU upgrade really :)

@Gibbo
Can you confirm that OCUK have stock and will be shipping on the 20th?
Planning on booking a day off work to build my new toy.
I know CPU launch's aren't as sexy as GPUs but till i get mine that 4090 is a paper weight.

I've heard some retailers are shipping on the 19th, so customers get them on the 20th, maybe @Gibbo can arrange this for us! :D

Ordered my 13700K from somewhere else unfortunately as there were no updates here on incoming stock and pre-order shipping. Didn't want to pay up front for one only to find out they had over sold and I'd have to wait. They ship via DPD.

Many of you guys going with 13900k for gaming over Zen 4?

I'm debating going with 13900K and sticking with it for quite a few years or going with AM5 now plus 7700X awaiting Zen4 X3D chips early next year.

AM5 will also have the upgrade path to Zen 5+X3D, so wondering if I'd regret going 13900K now and then X3D chips wreck it.

I'd wait for official reviews before deciding.

Also, IMO it's best to buy when you need something. It could be a long time until Zen4 with 3D cache launches. It may not perform as many expect - and it may still be limited to 8 core models.

OR, it could smash the 13900k and be the best gaming CPU for the next few years. Intel's 14th gen is delayed and may not perform.
