Internet Dating.....Who Has Done it?!

70miles is only just over an hour, thats far.
Its 70miles to real civilisation from where I work! God bless civilisation!

I've been trying on and off on a couple of sites and I've really it off with one girl but there's a slight catch. She lives in Manchester while I live in Nottingham. We're only messaging each other through the site at the moment, but I feel like we're really getting along well and we seem to have a lot in common from our conversations that we've been having. So, a question to you all, would you consider persuing this further, considering she lives 70 miles away?

i lived in Switzerland while i had my GF from the UK now we both live together here so i don't know where the problem is with 70 miles :)

Agreed, 70 miles isn't a huge distance. Depends on WHAT the distance is though and whether it's straight motorway or A/B roads. I judge it more on time than distance.

Got 3 dates this weekend and one the weekend after, and one tomorrow that I'm *really* nervous about as she's an absolute stunner.

Smash her pantry!

Yeah it's mainly motorway so all's good :)

I guess I'll see how it goes, there's a while yet methinks before dates become discussed but who knows, fingers crossed :)

Good luck with the dates!

Get in there! The longer it's left before meeting the more awkward and pressurised the first date is I've found.

The girl I'm meeting tomorrow I know hardly anything about as we've spoken for maybe a total of half an hour, plus what I know from her profile. Still, makes the date more interesting and you have more to talk about. Plus she literally lives opposite me and she suggested the date, so we're only meeting at a place 30 seconds away :p.

I haven't done internet dating sites, but I did meet a girl on the old MSN chat forums where we ended up meeting for real the SAME night ... to .. you know. Haven't seen or hear or wanted to hear from her since. Suited me perfectly :D

Very nice mate, good luck to you.

as for distance, I've only really done long distance relationships, the closest relationship I've had (only 20 minutes away, only lasted 2 months, the longest I've had was 3.5 hours (on train) and lasted a year, so my next attempt is going to be in USA, might actually work out then :p

but I'd say anything upto an hour is perfectly acceptable for a relationship, I've visited gfs who live an hour away for just the night, and left in the morning, it's a non-issue for me

deleting my PoF account, nothing but crap on there, giving OKcupid a little longer, but very unimpressed by my choices there

As others have said it's not a huge distance. Maybe for the first date you could meet somewhere half way though?

Not to burst your bubble but you may find when you do meet that you don't click like you do online. Only one way you're going to find out though ;)

Good luck hope it all works out :)

I've completely given up on dating at the moment. I'm concentrating on me for a little while. There is a guy I like and he likes me but he wants to be "proper" about things this time (as we initially met 6 months ago) and get to know me better before anything serious happens. But it's kind of on hold because he's got a lot of things on his mind right now :(

I've met a few guys for some no-strings action. I've not had any problems with it, it's great!

Classy...

Ahh wait, location.... never mind.

Edit: I presumed you were female. Looking at your posts, I realise you aren't.

Why are 90% of the girls on there psycho and weirdos.
I've stopped using the site now as it's just full of FREAKS. I know there will be some genuinely nice people on there, just my experience is a bit of a crud one atm.

I got hit with a case of the MySpace angles on one girl and now she won't leave me alone. Mithering me all the time to go visit her at Uni. Texting me a lot, asking me to phone her all the time.

I wouldn't mind but i've not really spoke to her that much, she just texts random turd all the time.
And I'm not a shallow person or anything but people seriously do need to put proper photo's on PlentyOfFish, i'm a tubster myself but i'm sorry if there is no physical attraction there then i'm just not interested.

I guess I shouldn't have been so polite in the first place, I just entertained her messages to me and had polite convo.

Other thing is, as soon as I sign on MSN, she'll message me 'Hiya sexy' and I reply 'Hiya', and that's it, lol nothing more. Excellent conversationalist. I think I might just have to start ignoring her, it's the only way!

And if he were?

Why can guys have no strings without stigma, but ladies cannot? :p

I never said they can. Was just confused when he said 'guys', which I associate with the male gender.

To be honest I hate the whole one night stand culture, whoever does it. It may be the fact that I will probably never have a one night stand, just because I like having a girlfriend. I'm young but 'old fashioned'... Call me a sucker, I don't care.
