On a different note. Had an email from a girl asking if I had issues dating someone with Herpes.

At least they was asking straight from the start. Many people wouldnt bother asking until its too late.

Iv been single for the last 14 months now, I signed up to POF a few nights ago got chatting to this blond bird and have a date with her tomorrow night :)

Fair play, hope it goes well for you:)

Length of previous relationship should be fine at 5 years now you have amended/ adjusted the other points :)

Dont worry too much about whether you put relationship or dating for the intent as long as your consitant within the rest of your profile...you need to make your profile honest to YOU! Not honest to anything else

Oh...and make your personal statement smile a bit more...more casual :) (have a read of Ahleckz profile of some really sterling work http://www.pof.com/viewprofile.aspx?profile_id=40945855)

Heh, so i know my reply is a couple weeks old, but i just redone my profile a bit so it doesn't seem like a CV!

Any further critique would be welcome;)

well im back on POF. I know its full of chavs, but so were the paid ones I found as that's who lives in my area. I believe I have changed my image to be more appealing to women, so hopefully better luck second time around. I want to live where you guys getting 2 or 3 dates a day live.

my biggest issue is that opening message. I want to be whitty and grab their attention, but how do you guys do it?

I'd say don't bother with any long personalised messages. Maybe just a short "Hi, how are you?" message followed by a question on something they've put on their profile e.g. if they say they like travelling then ask them where they've been/would like to go etc.

Long messages are a waste of time IMO. I read a message then view their profile, if I don't like their pics then I won't bother replying. Even the sweetest and most interesting personalised messages won't get responded to if I'm not attracted to the person. This is why photos are very important and the more you have the better.

yeh, I find I tend to babble a lot if I go for a long message. thing is, I find that the profiles either cover everything leaving nothing to ask, or don't offer anything that you can work with.

take this one for example

I'm 21, training as a student nurse in good old Cornwall at the mo although I hope one day to become a paramedic.
I have a little boy whos 2 years old and a proper little dude.
I love getting dressed up and having a good night out with friends.
Also enjoy a quiet night in every now and again.
Don't like to live life by a plan...

If you want to get to know more just send a message =)

what is there to work with from that?

"Hey! how are you?" works i guess.. if you get a reply start asking question you're interested in and just go from there?! i never had a problem with the first message :D but then again i haven't done any internet dating and i dont plan on doing it either..

I wouldn't even bother with that one. She just doesn't sound very.... Grown up? I don't know her nor have I seen her profile but anyway, isn't 21 a bit too young for you? Aren't you 29? (according to your profile)

Oh and, PROPER LITTLE DUDE INIT MATE!

yeh it is too young, but I was just using it as an example. its what most of the profiles are, they give you little indication on what they are like or anything to relate to to start a convo. I know mine isn't much better, so shouldn't judge.

If people are incapable of describing themselves in such a way as to give you some material to work with in a message, then they generally aren't worth bothering with anyway.

Surely there must be *something* from their profile that you can talk about.... Give me another example of a girl that you would actually message.

Agree!

About Me
Hey I'm new to this so shall be brief, not looking for anything serious as I've just come out of a relationship. Looking to meet new people. Loves going out, catching up with my friends and likes to be active. pictures will come in time.

or

About Me
I like to spend time with my son ,family and friends they mean everything to me , girly nights out. I enjoy horse riding and taking the dogs for a walk. I enjoy having fun. I enjoy all types of music . dont really know what else to write :)

admittedly its hard to know if I would message 99% of the people on there as their profiles are all similar to the 2 examples. no real personality in them so hard to know if I would like the person face to face, so can only really go on pics and hope for the best, which to me seems a bit shallow.

Shallow? If someone sends me a brilliant message and they have a great profile, they will still get ignored if I don't like their pics. How's that for shallow :D
